At New York City Comic Con, Marvel Studios updated their Phase 3 line up by announcing 3 new movies that will hit theatres on May 1, July 10 and Nov. 6, 2020 respectively.

This follows up the announcement of an Ant Man sequel titled Ant-Man and The Wasp, scheduled for a July 6, 2018 release date, that moved Black Panther up to a February 16, 2018 opening and Captain Marvel pushed back for a March 8, 2019 release.

While Marvel haven't revealed the name for their mystery movies, it is most likely that these movies will either start or usher in Marvel's Phase 4.

Due to the movies being set after Avengers: Infinity War it is likely that the film will not star any of the current Avengers, since some of them may actually die and most are out of contract after the two part epic. This leaves us with a few options;

  • A Guardians of The Galaxy sequel/spin off
  • A phase 3 solo movie sequel
  • A new standalone character solo outing

Now let me get into what one of these movies could be...

Nova

If you go on James Gunn's (Director of Guardians of The Galaxy) Facebook page, I guarantee that 90% of the comments will include fans asking Gunn to include Nova, fans asking when will we see Nova, or fans abusing Gunn for not including Nova. For those who don't know the character Nova is Richard Rider, Marvel's answer to Green Lantern/Hal Jordan. When the last surviving member of Xandar's elite Nova Corps, Rhomann Dey, is dying, he chooses Richard Rider to replace him. Bestowed with the powers of a Nova Centurion, Rider starts to call himself Nova and becomes a superhero.

This would fit in with the chronology of phase 3 as it is rumoured that Thanos will destroy the planet of Xandar. Rhomann Dey could survive the attack but sustain fatal injuries and travels to earth to choose Rider as his successor. The film could also focus on the Nova Corps, and the rest of the galactic side of the MCU, dealing with the aftermath of The Infinity War and finally let the fans see Nova and the Guardians on the same screen.

Another candidate for the mystery movies is one that everyone most likely guessed the minute they were announced...

Spider-Man sequel

Much like my idea for the Nova movie, the Spider-Man sequel could detail the aftermath of The Infinity War on earth. I imagine that Earth will be greatly affected by the war and the heroes will be to blame for it, in comes Norman Osborn. I detailed my plans for Marvel's phase 4 a few weeks ago and Norman Osborn was at the centre of it. With the Earth in panic, what better timing for a kind hearted billionaire to come in and gain the public's confidence and twist the public's opinion on Spider-Man and the rest of earth's heroes.

This could also be a way to finally include Daredevil and Punisher into the MCU films. Osborn could release Fisk from prison and make the public trust him again, making for an interesting team up between Spider-Man, Daredevil and Punisher. We would finally be able to see 'The Kingpin' take on Spider-Man, and with Osborn in power we could see him utilize a number of famous Spider-Man villains in his effort to rid New York of Spider-Man.

My last guess would be a team up movie. With the Avengers most likely disbanded, or dead, after the Infinity War we will need a new breed or heroes to fight earth's evil.

The Secret Avengers

As I have said in my previous pitches, The Avengers would be disgraced on earth and blamed for both the Infinity and even the Civil War. They must go under the radar and operate under a veil of secrecy as to not bring up any attention to them. This would be a great way to introduce many fan favourite characters such as Moon Knight, Spider-Woman and Agent Venom. The team would be led by Bucky Barnes and Black Widow, and would include many heroes such as Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man and Wasp. Making Bucky the leader would begin his transition into the role of Captain America, in honour of his fallen best friend Steve Rogers.

The passing of the torch... eh Shield
The passing of the torch... eh Shield

I believe Marvel are trying to show us the affects of the Infinity War with the 5 movies set after Part 2. Spider-Man 2 will show us the ramifications of the war on earth, while The Secret Avengers will reveal the personal anguish of the Avengers after the war, channelling Iron Man 3's handling of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Inhumans will not only introduce Attilan to the Marvel Universe, but we get to see how the war directly affected the hidden society, and how they will react to it. Nova and Captain Marvel will be the most interesting as they will detail how greatly affected the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe after their galaxy wide war.

So what do you guys think Marvel has in-store for us post Infinity War?
