Despite The Expendables 3 only grossing $39 million domestically, it actually garnered $167 million overseas. Which is why Nu Image and Millennium is mixing with SP International Pictures and Max Screen Film Distribution for The Expendables 4.
That means we will get to experience all the muscles, blood, and action for a fourth time! Production is set to start in China next year for a 2017 release. Although no director nor cast has been attached quite yet, the budget will near around $100 million.
The previous Expendables films center around Sylvester Stallone as mercenary team leader Barney Ross. The franchise has featured the likes of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the main group of mercenaries.
Millennium had also been working on an all-female-spin-off film called The Expendabelles, which was supposed to be directed by Robert Luketic, but there hasn't been any recent activity on the project for a while. It is rumored that they were approaching big stars like Cameron Diaz, Sigourney Weaver, and even Meryl Streep.
I have to admit I am more excited about an Expendabelles than the fourth film, as a new concept is always welcomed, but I know that the cast for The Expendables 4 will be insanely stellar and star-studded.
