Welcome to the first review of this sorda Halloween thing I have going on here and my first film review of a film that wasn't released this year. Today I'll be reviewing a classic horror film and really the only good killer shark movie out there, JAWS.
Brief Spoiler Free Summary
Jaws is the simple tale of a local beach being terrorized by a giant shark that feeds on people. Three men must travel out to see and kill the shark for the reward money and to save lives. It's a little more complicated then that, but when you get down to it that's the plot.
Martin Brody played by Roy Scheider ("2010", "All That Jazz", and "The Russia House") is probably my favorite character in the film and is most famous for, "You're gonna need a bigger boat". He's a very interesting and kind character that really everyone likes. Honestly I haven't met a single person that didn't like him.
Quint played by Robert Shaw ("Robin and Marian", "Battle of the Bulge", and "Young Winston") is probably the most memorable character from the movie. He's a badass, kinda insane, shark hunter who, like Martin Brody, everyone loves.
Matt Hooper played by Richard Dreyfuss ("Poseidon", "The Competition", and "American Graffiti") was one of the best characters in the film. The scene with him and Quint compare scars is one of my favorite scenes in this film and probably one of my favorite scenes in a horror film.
The Shark played by well a fake shark is the film's antagonist of sorts and is all honesty, the shark in the movie actually scared the hell outta me when I was younger. The atmosphere the shark creates and the suspense is honestly some of the best suspense in movie history. All films that want to have suspense need to look at Jaws and learn how they do it.
While this movie scared me when I was younger, however nowadays I don't get scared by this film since I've seen it about ten times. However back when this film came out it scared everyone! Everyone was afraid to go into the water, everyone was scared that a giant shark was going to eat them and so I will give the movie credit for that. Hell it probably still scares some people out there.
Honestly there really isn't anything bad in this movie. There's no bad acting, no bad lines, and the shark for the most part looked real and threatening. Keywords, most part. There are scenes that don't really hold up well today with the shark and make the creature look...obviously fake and not scary in the slightest. While this doesn't bother me in the slightest, I know for a fact because of this idiot teenager that don't know shit about movies will laugh at the film because of this. You know the kinda people I'm talking about. Those guys that say "I'm into horror man, I love Paranormal Activity, Five Night's at Freddy's and Slenderman dude"
Jaws is a masterpiece of horror and is a must watch for everyone. The only really bad thing about Jaws is that it spawned 3 sequels and you can't really blame the movie for that, blame the money it made.
Next blog I'll be discussing the upcoming slasher films, "Friday the 13th (2016)", "Halloween Returns", "Leatherface" and more.
Oh and I'll leave you guys with this,
