It seems that the creative overlords over at Disney are throwing themselves headfirst into live-action adaptations of classic Disney movies these days. From Maleficent and Cinderella, to Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Jungle Book, right now there's certainly a lot on offer to fans of the original animations.

And now another project is underway, with intentions to bring to life one of the most cruel villains in Disney's extensive repertoire: Cruella de Vil.

Indeed, the monochrome-haired, chain-smoking, puppy-killing enthusiast is getting another movie. And this is despite the fact that it's hard to imagine a finer Cruella than Glenn Close, who starred in the 1996 live-action movie 101 Dalmatians. Relive her crazy-eyed, cackling self here:

You'd think that Disney would choose to stop at this wonderful adaptation of Dodie Smith's 1956 novel, but it seems that the studio is eager to produce an even bigger and bolder movie version (if that's even possible!)

So, what do we know about the upcoming feature?

Well, to put it bluntly -- not much!

At the moment it has just been confirmed that Fifty Shades of Grey writer Kelly Marcel, will be co-writing the new re-imagining and that the title will be Cruella. If you think this is quite a unusual choice for a screenplay writer, bear in mind that Marcel also wrote Saving Mr. Banks for Disney.

Additionally, we also know that the premise of the movie is likely follow the same trajectory as Maleficent, focusing on the early days of de Vil's legacy. So for all we know, there might be some deep dark childhood trauma that led her to become hysterically obsessed with dalmatian fur coats. But that's all speculation of course.

Whatever the plot-line does end up being though, the main question on everyone's lips is who will step into Cruella's shoes to bring her horrifying desire to skin adorable creatures to the big screen.

And although we probably won't find out for many, many months to come, here's my take on who might do the role justice:

1. Helena Bonham Carter

She's done crazy in a ton of Tim Burton movies, and freaked us out as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series. Plus, she's definitely got the wacky hair for it.

2. Charlize Theron

Charlize is no stranger to completely transforming herself into a movie role (you just have to look back to her performance as a serial killer in Monster for evidence of that!). She's clearly got a penchant for darker roles, and her recent foray into fairytales in Snow White and the Huntsman could potentially highlight her as a favorite for Disney.

3. Nicole Kidman

She's been a witch in Bewitched, and the immaculately-dressed woman with the golden monkey in The Golden Compass, in which she played the ruthless and power-hungry villain. I think she would be great for the role, if she perfected her menacing cackle, that is.
