The Star Wars rumor mill has been churning out intriguing tidbits of hearsay at an unstoppable rate, but the latest claim to circulate the Internet, surprisingly, has nothing to do with The Force Awakens. Rather, it concerns the standalone Boba Fett movie, still in the very early stages of pre-production.

The rumor, which comes from the Meet the Movie Press podcast, alleges that the actor currently in talks to play the legendary bounty hunter is Fantastic Four star...

Michael B. Jordan!

Now remember, this rumor is exactly that: an uncorroborated piece of information from an unidentified source -- so take it as you will.

However, Jeff Sneider of The Wrap said that he's pretty sure that Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray will be taking over the project, and he believes Jordan is a frontrunner to play its green-armored protagonist:

"From what I heard, after Compton, Gary Gray was only considering two movies. One was Furious 8, and the other required meetings in San Francisco. That leaves, literally, two possibilities. The first possibility, which is what I'm thinking it that it was, was to possibly replace Josh Trank on the Boba Fett movie, and I do think Boba Fett will be African American."

The second possibility, by the way, is Indiana Jones, though considering Steven Spielberg just came out and said he thinks he'll "probably do Indy 5 with Harrison [Ford]," it seems Star Wars may be the more likely candidate.

Jeff Sneider continued:

"I just remember hearing somewhere Michael B. Jordan rumors for Boba Fett.
Disney has a huge diversity mandate, and Star Wars has had what? All white male directors so far. They want some diversity. F. Gary Gray has had meetings with LucasArts."

Now, I know what you're probably thinking: We already saw a young Boba Fett in Lucas' prequels, and he looked distinctly un-African American.

Boba Fett is the clone of Jango Fett, who was played by Temura Morrison; an actor of Maori, Scottish, and Irish decent. Casting Jordan doesn't seem to fit into the franchise's established lore. But hey, Jordan has already played Johnny Storm -- an originally caucasian character, so why couldn't it happen again?

Plus, the focus of the Boba Fett movie might not even center on the same bounty hunter we've previously seen. Could we be introduced to a different man in the same armor? What do you think?
