The Half-Life reddit page has been around for over 5 years. It's been the base for crackpot theories, fan appreciation, tremendous outrage, and general hilarity. But it's also a painful reminder of what could have been. Its been 8 years since the release date of Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and they've been long and silent years from Valve. Recent leaks point to a pretty awful situation in terms of seeing Half-Life 3 anytime soon, but of course that's not going to stop fans from dreaming!
Reddit is an unusual beast, you never know what kind of thread is going to come your way or what exactly will be trending on any given day. But seeing as Half-Life 3 hasn't been announced, why is it suddenly trending? What kind of life does the Half-Life franchise enjoy now a days? Let's take a quick look!
Half-Life 3 Is Nowhere in Sight, so Why Is It Trending on Reddit?
First of all, let's see what fans reactions to the trending status are like. Understandably, people are insanely frustrated by the perpetuating promise of news. We've seen nothing of this game for almost a decade and the amount of times that fans thought they were about to hear an announcement or see a trailer must be grueling:
The sad thing is, this is probably going to be another one of those things where we all get excited about something and Valve will either completely ignore us or will do their best to suffocate any remaining hope.
The recent events are odd and strangely co-incidental. This is a weird case and I hope we get an explanation - a decent explanation without the typical Half-Life 3 dodging. For fuck sakes Valve, just come out and tell us what the hell has been going on for the last eight years. We're still here!
Empty_Allocution goes on to say that the Half-Life reddit will most likely be disappointed by the reason behind this sudden boost in traffic. Nothing will come of it, Valve will remain silent, and fans will be forced to endure further disappointment.
In the meantime we just have to do what we do best as Half-Life fans - wait. Wait and hope that the silence will be broken after all of these years. And Valve, even if you aren't working on it right now - still tell us. We need closure!
It IS bordering on the insane at this stage. If the leak is actually true, than the story of Half-Life 3 has been finished for a long time. Huge chunks of the game have been completed, but as it stands there are about ten people working on the project. This really sucks, but if it is or isn't the case, why wouldn't Valve be transparent about it? It's a curious one.
But if you're a Half-Life fan and you love chatting about this wondrous franchise; than the Half-Life subreddit is the place to go! Recently, we've seen some pretty hilarious posts from individuals claiming that they would eat something if Half-Life 3 was released within the next week. Check it out, maybe this is why it's trending? Who knows anymore?!
