Two years ago, 'The Conjuring' was unleashed upon audiences and grossed over $300 million at the box office. Since then, we got an 'Annabelle' spin-off, which mustered up over $250 million world-wide. As a fan of the first two "Warren ghost flicks," I am very excited for the new follow-up in the Warner Bros. franchise tentatively titled, '[The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist](tag:1045293)'.
Production has started in the UK and director James Wan has tweeted a few photos straight off of the set!
Confirmed to be returning for the sequel are Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as famed demonologists Lorainne and Ed Warren. The film is based on the real case investigated by the Warrens in the late 1970's. Set in Enfield, England, the film follows a family that is tormented by an evil entity. Rounding out the cast are Frances O'Connor, Javier Botet, and Simon McBurney.
Director James Wan has really proven himself as a king of horror. Between 'Saw', 'Insidious', 'The Conjuring', and the under-appreciated 'Dead Silence', Wan has managed to create a portfolio that greatly impacted early-millenial horror.
'The Conjuring' was one of the best theater experiences I have ever had. I saw the first film in a packed theater during the opening weekend back in the summer of 2013. The audience was responsive and I was truly terrified at particular moments. I only hope the sequel matches the tension and suspense featured in the original.
'The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist' possesses theaters June 10th, 2016.
