Nowadays, it seems like fans have to pull Marvel Entertainment's teeth just to get a glimpse at their next projects. It's been weeks since Marvel gave lucky fans at Disney's D23 Expo a sneak peek at Captain America: Civil War, the first film to usher in the much anticipated Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans who didn't get to go to the event (including myself) have been wondering when Marvel will finally give fans that high quality trailer in all its glory (My hope is that it comes with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, if not Star Wars: The Force Awakens.)
There's also been huge excitement behind Marvel's next Netflix series, Jessica Jones. The next silver screen project to feature a female lead has been hitting all the targets with gritty teasers of the superheroine-turned-private investigator's life, including the on-the-edge-of-your-seat teaser featuring a harrowing voiceover from former Doctor Who star David Tennant. And fans who were able to attend Marvel's Netflix panel at New York Comic Con last weekend were treated to not only a Jessica Jones cast panel, which you can now find on Marvel's YouTube page, but also the first episode of the season, described by the attendees as the MCU's darkest project to date. Now fans are waiting for an official trailer before the show's premiere date on November 20th.
But alas, we're presented with another gift: a first look at the upcoming second season of the immensely popular Daredevil, which you can watch below:
Opening on a dark night in Hell's Kitchen, the infamous Daredevil logo engulfs the street in a red-hot glow before showing us the man himself on a rooftop, looking down on the street below in his old costume. In the first half of the clip, we're given a recap of last season's explosive story arc: the rise of Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. There are explosions, gunfire, police cars racing down the streets, Fisk and Wesley talking in hushed tones, Claire Temple, Karen Page, and witty banter between the Avocados at Law, Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson. And just like that, the official logo pops up on the screen.
And then the unexpected happens: less than forty seconds left dedicated to Season 2! "Father, why do I still feel guilty?" Matt Murdock asks, as we get a shot of him, Karen, and Foggy sitting on a pew. "Guilt can be a good thing," Father Lantom replies. "It's a souls call to action. An indication that your work is not yet finished." And then the scenes flash before us: Claire Temple in a hospital, Foggy with SWAT members if not heavily-armed officers, Daredevil walking down the stairs against the backdrop of a crimson glow, our first shot on Élodie Yung as Elektra covering her face, crime scene investigations, and Karen inspecting an X-ray of a skull that's fairly reminiscent of the Punisher's logo. And then, Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle walks down a hospital hallway carrying a firearm. The scene cuts to black, and we're left with one word before the Season 2 title card: "Beg."
And then we're left to contemplate what we're going to do with our lives until Season 2 hits Netflix. With an explosive sizzle reel, Daredevil's season two is ramping up to hit another home run and follow in the first season's footsteps as we are once again thrown into the world of the man without fear.
Marvel's Daredevil returns in 2016, and Marvel's Jessica Jones premieres on November 20th!
