Guillermo del Toro delivers another superb movie and when you look at the amazing cast of this Gothic Period piece you immediately know that it has to be as good as it looks and it definitely is. We are introduced to Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who has just went through a family tragedy and is delivered an ominous warning. Fast forward to pesent day and she is an aspiring author trying to be published in a time when women were not given many opportunities. Her father is Carter Cushing (Jim Beaver) a prominent business man in Buffalo, New York and indulges his daughter in her aspirations. There is a clique of higher society families that include Dr. Alan McMichael (Charlie Hunnam) who has known Edith all her life and has grown to have a great fondness for her. Word is out that an Aristocrat from the remote English Country Side of Cumbria, England Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) is in town and the American debutants are vying for his attention. He has come to Mr. Cushing with his latest invention in hopes to receive an investment to complete his vision. This is where he meets Edith and begins to seduce her. Her father hires a private investigator to look into this stranger and finds disturbing news and offers Sir Thomas and his sister Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain) a heavty sum of money to leave and break Edith's heart in the process. After another family tradgedy Sir Thomas is able to convince Edith to marry him and relocate to his Mansion named Allerdale Hall nicknamed "Crimson Peak" for the red clay that seeps up through the snow. When Edith arrives she sees that the mansion is in complete disrepair and many strange things begin to unfold. Edith comes to realize the man she has married isn't who she thought he was and it becomes a fight for survival. This is a stunning Gothic Period piece with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I was very excited to see this film and it delivered all my expectations and when that happens it's true movie magic. Crimson Peak premieres in theaters Friday October 16th.
