Imagine delving into the depths of a forest in a foreign country. The path is barely illuminated - the trees too dense and dark. You keep hearing suspicious noises, and a few times you wonder if your eyes are playing tricks on you.
Why would you even wander into such a scary predicament?
Because you're trying to find your beloved twin sister who has disappeared.
Such is the plight Natalie Dormer faces in The Forest . The Game of Thrones star plays Sara, whose sister suddenly goes missing, vanished into the Aokigahara forest in Japan - also known as the Suicide Forest. The Aokigahara forest is a real life forest that counts an average of about one hundred suicides per year.
According to Japanese legend, this actual forest is rumored to be swarming with demonic activity. I'm already getting chills just thinking about the tortured souls wandering the woods...both dead and alive.
Focus Features has graced us with this freaky (and gorgeous) poster, an exclusive first look at the next big horror title: The Forest.
Those eyes are incredibly haunting. Almost as haunting as those hanging nooses, an ominous reference to this forest's creepy history. Check out the trailer below, but I warn you...you'll think twice about busting out your hiking boots and walking stick.
The Forest hits theaters January 8th, the first big horror release of 2016.
In the meantime, refrain from exploring any trails in spooky forests that are rumored to house hundreds of disturbed souls that feed on the unexpected living!
