The CW has released a sizzle reel for The Flash's second season, which gives a quick glimpse of The Flash's newest (and scariest) foe, Zoom.
Still with us? Good. Now let's get down to business.
Harrison Wells Is Still the Center of Controversy
It was confirmed moments after The Flash's season finale that Tom Cavanagh would remain on the show as a season regular, despite his character dying at the hands of Eddie Thawne.
Since then, Cavanagh briefly appeared during the second season premiere via video, in which he confesses to killing Nora Allen. While it may have felt that we saw the last of Wells, it seems viewers will be introduced to another version of the character.
During a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, Wells is shown addressing a crowd of people, as Jay Garrick enters the scene. Garrick appears to be visibly upset. It's possible that Garrick and Wells are not on good terms, or Wells may be working on a project that Garrick isn't a fan of. Either way, viewers can expect to see Wells play some part in the story.
The Snart Family Continue to Grow
It looks like viewers will continue to learn more about Leonard Snart's dysfunctional family. Lewis Snart, father of Captain Cold and The Golden Glider, will see himself returning to Central City with a sinister plan. While that seems normal for villains (villains gotta do villainous stuff to be villains) it seems this plan will endanger Lewis's children. Pretty messed up. Seems this version of the character will stay relatively accurate to his comic book part.
Dr. Stein Needs a Partner
With Ronnie gone, it seemed that Dr. Stein may have an opportunity at a normal life, but that isn't the case. It looks like Stein will have some trouble adjusting to being a solo hero. As it was previously established during Flash's first season, the merge between Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein was inevitable. For Stein to remain stable, he will need a new partner to help him keep his powers under control. Enter Jefferson Jackson, the new half of Firestorm.
Viewers have already watched The Flash go head to head with Earth-Two's Atom Smasher, and it seems the trend of facing off with Earth-Two villains will continue for the remainder of the season. The sizzle reel gave viewers quick glimpses of Dr. Light, The Sand Demon, and Tokomak. It's worth noting that these villains may not have a choice in the matter, since Zoom is essentially making them do his bidding... speaking of Zoom...
Zoom Is One Scary Speed Demon
When it was revealed that a Zoom would be Barry's newest nemesis, there were concerns that Zoom would be confused with Harrison Wells' Reverse Flash, but it seems that won't be the case. Thanks to Tony Todd's eerie voice acting, and the overall frightening look that Zoom is sporting, it seems that this speed demon will definitely be unlike anything viewers have seen before.
Not much is known about Zoom's intentions, but Jay Garrick believes that Zoom's ultimate goal is to be the only speedster around. Unfortunately for Barry, it means that he can't be around for Zoom to hold that exclusive title.
Something to take quick note of is that Zoom's lightning is blue, which is a very peculiar color. It's not known yet what is the source of Zoom's speed, but in the comics, Zoom never had any speed to begin with. He manipulated time to make himself appear to be moving fast. Is it possible that this version of Zoom has access to a speed force, specifically, the negative speed force?
The Flash airs Tuesday's at 8 p.m. on The CW.
