Keeping their promise of yearly installments, [Assassin's Creed](tag:437814) Syndicate is set to release on October 23, 2015. Now I know many people, many of whom have been fans of the series from the very first game, have concerns about the future of Assassin’s Creed. The last few games to be released have not seemed like Ubisoft’s best work. Ever since the death of Desmond in Assassin’s Creed 3, the story has begun to fall apart.

One big problem I have had with the recent games were the fact that the present day story arc was very lacking, like in Assassin’s Creed Unity where the appearance of an outer animus story arc was completely missing and whatever there was, took place solely inside the animus, which felt like an afterthought. Another problem was that the Assassin Order’s influence has been more and more absent, especially in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, where the Order was almost completely absent until the very end.

In the midst of these problems, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is looking to bring a breath of fresh air to the series. A big reason why Syndicate will be the best since Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, is the fact that this game has spent three years in the making and is being made by Ubisoft Quebec who also contributed a great deal to Brotherhood. Personally, Ubisoft Quebec is my favorite branch of the Ubisoft company because of the work they’ve put out. Quebec has put out the King Washington DLC for AC 3, Freedom Cry DLC for Black Flag and contributed to Brotherhood and Revelations, all of which were amazing. This is the first time that this branch has taken the lead on a full Assassin’s Creed game.

Ubisoft Quebec has said that they have done away with the cover mechanic and other stealth mechanics that we have seen in Unity and Black Flag and has put more focus on hiding in plain sight, as seen in the Ezio story arc. There will be no more hiding in bushes or covering behind walls and such but instead we’ll see more clothing to help blend in with the general populous, in example the top hat that we have been seeing in all of the trailers. Ubisoft has also said that there will be a present day story arc, but they aren’t saying anything else which can be either good or bad, I’m hoping that it’s going to be good.

Syndicate is also going to be introducing a new climbing mechanic in the form of a grapple. With this grapple, you can shoot it onto the top of a building and climb up in an instant. Their thought behind this is that some players of the earlier games have voiced annoyances in how much time it takes to climb up walls and such. This grapple is the solution to that. Another addition that is being revived from Brotherhood is the appearance of faster devices of travel. In Brotherhood, you were given a horse that you could ride around Italy which made it easier to travel around the map. In Syndicate Ubisoft is giving you the ability to drive and jack horse and carriage, GTA style. In many trailers, we see the main Assassin yanking a civilian off of their carriage and drive off after an enemy. Another big step in the franchise is the addition of a playable main female assassin, which is a first in a full fledged Assassin’s Creed game.

For all of these reasons and the excitement about Victorian Era London, Syndicate is looking to be the best Assassin’s Creed game since Brotherhood. Quebec is a great developer and have put out many great DLCs and contributed to one of my favorite games in the franchise. The new grapple and the presence of carriages will add a greater speed to the game. The Brotherhood-esque stealth mechanics will be a great revival and hopefully will be here to stay. That mechanic worked so well in the AC 2 arc as well as in AC 3 and I am very much looking forward to using it again. As long as Quebec does a good job in integrating the Assassin Order as well as the Templar Order into London society, Syndicate is looking to be an amazing game and will hopefully bring faith back into the future of the series.

Do you think that Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be good for the franchise?
