It seems like all the major studios these days are following Marvel's lead and creating their very own combined universes, but there are a few movie icons that have them beat when it comes to crossover movies.

These recognizable big bads are none other than Godzilla and King Kong, who have made appearances in each other's movies more times than they've seen nuclear

Following the massive success of 2014's Godzilla, Legendary and Warner Bros. have decided to team up once again. This time, they're going back to bring these crossover films back for an entirely new generation.

Kong: Skull Island will kick off the franchise

We'll be reintroduced to King Kong sometime in 2017, but that's just the start of this giant monster franchise. The studios have also confirmed Godzilla 2 for 2018 and Godzilla vs. Kong for 2020, which is big news for fans of the huge destructive forces of nature.

And that's not all!

We'll also be meeting some new super-species along the way

Don't worry, Bryan Cranston! Things can't get much worse for you!

But a whole new batch of characters will be contending with original monsters that we've never seen before. The organization Monarch, which revealed Godzilla in last year's film, won't stop there, and we'll soon see them unearthing equally devastating forces.

It's likely that we'll also see the likes of Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah (as originally announced at Comic-Con 2014), but brand new behemoths opens up an ambitious creative direction for an exciting new franchise. And with stars like Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, and Brie Larson already involved, these movies are shaping up to do the kind of damage at the box office that would make their subjects proud.
