Greeting and salutations faithful readers! Who here with the week 5 recap week 6 edition of Friends in Square Places 2015 Fan Duel BEAT DOWN!
And what a beat down it was. We took a pounding on FanDuel and a smashing against the spread. It was a massacre. Luckily I wasn't alone with the best entry on ESPN Pigskin Pick'em being the lowest of the season at 13 but that still doesn't excuse a poor performance. If this thing were real my uncle Vinny would be knocking on my door looking for pay up or some knee caps to bust.
Congratulations are in order to our Week 5 BEAT DOWN winner, "manicsk24" who somehow pulled a win with Blake Bortles of Jacksonville at QB and Gronk at TE only posting an 8.7...>_> yeah....congrats...
Remember you can join us every week on FanDuel, just follow the link or find our game "2015 Friends in Square Places Fan Duel BEAT DOWN *OFFICIAL*"
When we look back to our spread picks, the horror causes us to cringe in fear and disgust at the absolute atrocious outing we had. To be fair I felt I had to start making some ground up and I wanted to take advantage of the Jets being off. Nailed our BEAT DOWN of the week with the Patriots and picked our upset with Washington, Chicago and Cleveland, but that was it. Every other game was a complete scratch leaving us with 4 measly wins...Yeesh..
So now it's time to go no-holds-barred! BEAT DOWN ACTION GO!!!
BEAT DOWN OF THE WEEK
Denver Broncos (5-0) at Cleveland Browns (2-3) +4.5
For the first time in a while we have someone other than the Pats or the Pack as our BEAT DOWN of the Week. Also it's the first time we have Peyton Manning which is a bit surprising considering he and his Broncos are 5-0 and well it's Peyton Manning. But the Broncos haven't exactly been blowing the doors off scoring only 113 points (22.6/g), good for 17th in the league. What they have been doing is winning tough close games with their #1 defense leading the charge. They have managed to win 2 division games and one against what was thought a possible playoff opponent in Baltimore. They are on a roll and are due for a blow out.
Some might say to avoid this game because of the upset potential with the Broncos staring at a bye and a showdown with the Packers looming but that is just people staring at the 0 in the Broncos loss column for too long. They'll get a loss but just not this week.
Atlanta Falcons (5-0) at New Orleans Saints (1-4) +3.5
With a 2-3 record picking Thursday night games I'm a bit weary putting any money down anymore. Usually picking Thursday night could easily go to the home team with road teams often struggling with the short week but this year has shown that it's anyone's game. This totally looks like a sure bet with Atlanta being part of the 5-0 brat pack but the Saints have been playing harder with Drew Brees back in the lineup (even though it's obvious he is still hampered from some injury). With talk of an end of an era, Saints fans are hoping a win here can bring back the mojo of the good years rather than the bad. Saints definitely play harder at home where Drew Brees feels comfortable. Look Saints fans, as a Jets fan that went through Chad Pennington I can assure you that it's only gonna get worse so when you do win appreciate every second of Drew Brees. Dude is a machine that helped revitalize a community. And this machine has a few more life cycles left.
Redskins did a lot to push the Falcons to the edge last week and I'm betting that took a lot out of them. Everything at Oddsshark tells you to put your money on Atlanta with them being 4-1 ATS (Against the Spread) and 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games on the road. But with a 7-0 record at home in October and a ton of ground to make up the Saints will be looking to take this must win. They will keep it close or win it out in Overtime.
JETS THIS WEEK
Washington Redskins (2-3) at New York Jets (3-1) -5.5
After coming off a well deserved bye the Jets look to continue riding the momentum from their win against Miami in London. Safe to say a lot of Jets fans are feeling pretty confident and already taking vacation time in February. But I say hold off on that. Todd Bowles has done a better than expected job so far but there is still a ton of Jets baggage he has to sift through before even thinking of the promise land. The loss to Philadelphia still lingers and it has me watching Kirk Cousins with beady eyes of suspicion. I don't trust the Jets in this position and neither should you because media has written off the Redskins. Washington is a decent team with the #6 defense in the league and against the Jets #2 defense one would expect scores in the single digits but with decent running games on both sides and plenty of quick passing to beat the defensive rush i expect double digit scores more on the Jets side (that is if Chan Gailey doesn't decide to nap through the first half).
With the return of Sheldon Richardson from suspension the Jets defense is finally complete and we shall bear witness to the new Empire. New York needs to make a statement by winning his game so that they face a head on collision with the Pats who will surely win their game and still be undefeated giving us the biggest game of the year so far. Jets are 6-1 ATS in the last seven games the total has gone under in 15 of the Jets' last 18 games after the bye. Take the Jets and buy the points.
*Redskins are 8-2 all time against the Jets...
Cincinnati Bengals (5-0) at Buffalo Bills (3-2) +2.5

Houston Texans (1-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars(1-4) +0.5
Carolina Panthers (4-0) at Seattle Seahawks (2-3) -6.5 *Carolina is 4-0-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
