Game of Thrones

Winner of 26 Primetime Emmy Awards and nominated for 85, this show needs no introduction. For those who don’t know, Game of Thrones is a series based on the book by George R. R. Martin. Season 1 of the series begins as the winters draw near in the unified seven kingdoms of Westeros, after the long summer. King Robert Baratheon asks his dear friend, Eddard Stark, to become the ‘King’s Hand’, the most powerful appointed position, which earlier belonged to Eddard’s mentor, Jon Arryon. Reluctant at first, Eddard accepts the offer, planning to leverage his position in investigating his mentor’s murder. Meanwhile, in the eastern continent of Essos, the exiled children of house Targaryen plan their vengeance on Robert, who had destroyed their house to claim the throne. To this end, Viserys Targaryen arranges his sister’s marriage with Khal Drogo, leader of the Dothraki Warriors. Finally on the northernmost border of the Seven Kingdoms, the sworn brothers of the Night’s watch guard ‘The Wall’, a 300 mile long fortification of ice which has stood erect for thousands of years. Though the watch guards against the wildings living on the other side, rumour afloats of a new threat arising in the land of perpetual winter. What is this new threat? Band of Brothers


Band of Brothers is the story of a time when the world asked a group of ordinary men to do extraordinary things. The time was World War II and the men were of the Easy Company of the US Army 101st Airborne division. The series follows the men of the Easy Company through their mission into WWII Europe starting from Operation Overlord or the battle of Normandy, where the allied operation had launched a successful invasion of German Occupied Western Europe, till the Victory over Japan Day or V-J Day, when Japan had officially surrendered to America on 15th August, 1945. True Detective

Created by Nic Pizzolatto, ‘True Detective’ follows the story of two Louisiana based State Homicide detectives and their investigation of crime. The Primetime Emmy winning show stars the Academy Award winning actor, Matthew McConaughey alongside Woody Harrelson, who is known for his role in ‘No Country for Old Men’. The show starts off with Cohle and Hart at the scene of the crime where a bizarre murder has taken place. The strange signs and the style of murder reek of a mysterious, confusing pattern. The story goes back and forth between the investigation and the interview of Cohle and Hart, who, 17 years later, want to reason how a similar murder can happen if the killer was caught earlier? The interview and the investigation run parallel throughout Season 1 unearthing dark secrets and surprising revelations. The first season also takes us to a trip inside the life of agent Cohle, his addiction to drinks and drugs. With every new episode being a new journey full of excitement, unearthing new evidence and inching towards the killer, True Detective is a show you cannot afford to miss. The Sopranos

The Sopranos is definitely one of the most arresting crime dramas on tv that launched a thousand others following its footsteps like Mad Men, Breaking Bad et al. Started in 1999, the show follows Tony Soprano, a New Jearsey mobster who deals with issues in his personal and professional life. Season 1 kicks off with Tony Soprano consulting a psychiatric after he passes out at a family barbeque due to an anxiety attack. Tony’s fear that he might have come towards the end of his job, and the American experiment reflects the genral fear of an American in 1999 with the state in a mess towards the start of the 21st century. Follow Tony Soprano in his journey of highs and lows as he struggles with his family at home and with the waning business outside it. Catch laughter, anger and a lot of excitement as Season 1 and 2 marathon (three episodes) air every Saturday and Sunday at 5 pm.

Veep

The winner of 9 Primetime Emmy Awards, Veep comedy series revolve around the life of former senator Selina Meyer who accepts the invitation to become the Vice President of the United States and realises that it was all a huge mistake. Selina and her staff want to leave a lasting legacy, and try to do all that without getting caught up in the day to day political games that define Washington. Season One introduces Selina Meyer, Vice President of the United States and her staff, all searching to establish their foothold in Washington D.C. and while Selina takes on a project, a series of missteps require her staff to work on damage control. Will Selina be able to pull this off without getting caught up in the political net? There’s only one way to find out and that is, by tuning in every Monday-Friday, 5:20pm on HBO Hits.
