Now, for a man known for being extraordinarily accessible to his fans via social media, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has been doing a pretty incredible job thus far of telling us absolutely nothing at all about the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Which, in fairness, is probably a good thing, since the film doesn't come out until 2017, and we're all already completely over-excited about it.

Recently, however, during a Facebook Q&A, Gunn did drop a few gentle teases about what we can expect to see in the imminent sequel, and from the sounds of it...

We're Definitely Set to See at Least One New Character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

As Gunn put it:

"I’m not going to give names and I won’t give numbers either, but there will be at least one new character in Guardians of the Galaxy."

Which...we kinda figured. Fans, though, weren't content with that sort of vagueness, and asked Gunn whether or not a certain Adam Warlock would be involved, and whether that could lead directly in to Avengers: Infinity War. Gunn's reply was...cagey:

"You guys gotta wait and see... Everything’s going to be different in the ‘Infinity Wars.’ I’m a lot more concerned with ‘Vol. 2’ than I am with ‘Infinity Wars.’ The way the movie [’Vol. 2’] is structured and made – it really is a story unto itself. It’s not about leading up to anything else. It’s about the Guardians and their lives."

Which...very much leaves open the possibility of us seeing Adam Warlock, it seems - without actually confirming a single thing.

The most intriguing reveal, though?

It Sounds as Though Gunn Has Pitched a Guardians Spin-off to Marvel

As he put it, when asked whether he'll continue working with Marvel after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2:

"Probably! If the second one does well. You guys will have to go see the second one. There’s a lot of other Marvel cosmic properties that I’d be interested in helping usher to the screen. I talk about it a lot but, if I said too much here, Marvel might track me down and shoot me."
"As long as I’m working with Marvel, I’ll probably be working on ‘Guardians’ and ‘Guardians’-related projects."

The big question, then?

Just What are Those 'Other Marvel Cosmic Properties'?

Well, some form of the superhero Nova (think one of the Nova Corps from Guardians, but from Earth and a superhero) would seem a likely candidate, though whether that would be the original Richard Rider (above left) or the new teenaged version Sam Alexander very much remains to be seen.

Alternatively, Quasar (above right) would make for a pretty natural MCU addition, as would the original Captain Marvel (though he'd likely be called Mar-Vell, seeing as Carol Danvers will beat him to the screen). Were Gunn leaning more out-there (which is kind of his thing) then a Rocket Raccoon and Groot spin-off would seem plausible, as would a Beyonder-featuring adaptation of Marvel's 80's crossover event Secret Wars.

Or, y'know, they'll just make a Star-Lord solo movie where he fights a bunch of alien dinosaurs.

Honestly, though, if Gunn was directing it? I suspect we'd all be there on opening night no matter what the hell that spin-off was...

What do you reckon, though?
