Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is possibly the most anticipated superhero movie of all time, and I believe that this movie, along with the rest of DC's upcoming films, will blow Marvel out of the water. Don't get me wrong, I love both Marvel and DC! However, the facts are plain. I believe that DC has what it takes to overthrow Marvel's 5 seconds of fame, and I want to cite some reasons why!
1. DC has all of its properties
While you can clearly see that Marvel can't bring some of its most iconic characters into the MCU (aside from Spider-Man and Venom, due to a recent agreement with Sony Pictures), DC hasn't sold any of their movie making rights. There are endless possibilities for characters that might appear in one of these movies! We could see any character from the DC universe without fail, so they can bring out all of their big characters that we've been dying to see. Speaking of which...
2. More popular characters
Yes, Marvel has Captain America, Iron Man, and many other iconic characters, but everyone knows Superman and Batman. Kids from the 60s to teenagers now have all grown up with Batman and Superman, so they didn't just recently make it into the spotlight. Even people who have never touched a comic book in their life know these guys! I'll admit, I didn't know who Scott Lang or Thanos were before they made their way into the Marvel universe, but even the low grade DC characters have developed a good deal of fame! It could just be because DC has made more movies about these characters, but either way, I'd go see Bruce Wayne over Stephen Strange any day.
3. Keeping TV separate
One of the biggest complaints about the new DC Cinematic Universe, is that they're keeping their TV shows separate from their movies. This is actually a smart move by them! While Marvel's shows don't directly affect their movies, there's always something that you could miss if you don't watch them! For example, Jasper Sitwell was in both Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There's just no telling when the TV shows and the movies will cross over. But with DC, you don't have to be caught up on this season of Arrow to go see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! Not to mention, now we're actually getting two stories from DC. One from their connected movies, and one from their connected TV shows! And who knows, when the confusion of not having the two connected is over, we could even see the Justice League on TV!
4. Darker themes
We can tell from the trailers and set photos of everything we've seen so far, that this universe is going to be oozing with darkness! Why is this good? Because that's how it would really be if superheroes existed. We wouldn't have these feel good Disney-Marvel superheroes, no, we would have Superman hated by the public. We would have Batman snapping people's necks in the desert. They don't get away with a slap on the wrist for damaging a city during an alien invasion, these heroes are being held accountable for everything they do. That makes this movie experience a lot more realistic for me, and I'm actually really excited to see what part the general public will play in these movies.
5. The casting choices
Love them or hate them, DC's (sometimes questionable) casting choices have kept the Internet buzzing! From the perfect casting of Henry Cavill as Superman, to the not so welcome castings of Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Ezra Miller as The Flash, DC has certainly sparked interest. I mean, who would have ever thought that Will Smith would play Deadshot before DC actually made it happen? Or Jared Leto as The Joker? Practically every choice they've made has completely baffled online casting critics (including myself) with either how perfect or how edgy they are, and that's something that's bound to draw some people to the box office.
