You can't go more than ten feet into the internet with regards to [The Walking Dead](tag:201193) without encountering a meme or threat to riot if Daryl dies. There have been more big character deaths on this show than any other, except maybe [Game of Thrones](tag:201531).

The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, has been notorious for saying that no one that is safe, not even Sheriff Rick himself, though many fans would argue and say that if Rick were to die, the show and even comics, would be done.

Who's Kirkman's Pick for the Consummate Survivor?

During this year's New York Comic Con Panel, Robert let on that, yes, while no one is safe, he does have regrets about all the deaths at one point or another. Yet there is one character in particular he feels he could never kill off, and it's not who you think!

(Warning! Comic Spoilers below.)

The version of Carol you see on the television show is so different from her comic book counterpart. In the black and white pages, the widow Peletier throws herself at Lori and Rick for a threesome while in the prison. When she's rejected, she throws herself to a walker in the courtyard, leaving Sophia an orphan to be raised by Glenn and Maggie.

It's hard to imagine that given Carol's current state, that she was nearly killed off in season 3 when T-Dog and Lori died in the prison. Melissa McBride was given a chance to talk to the writers and producers and tell them why Carol could be a great character. Her plea didn't fall on deaf ears, and I am incredibly thankful for that!

From that point on, she's had some seriously difficult situations to maneuver through. But according to Kirkman, that's what makes her so unkillable.

“The Carol that’s in the comic was my attempt to show just how broken an individual can become from the zombie apocalypse. The Carol in the show, which is a much better character let’s be honest, actually is made stronger by all the more horrible things that happen to her in the show. Killing her would definitely not … we can’t do that.”

What's Next for Carol in Season 6?

She's proven that she's a force to be reckoned with when she upended Terminus to save her family. So, I can only imagine the lengths she will continue to go to in the face of the current herd moving towards them as well as the impending issue of the wolves!
