Two of my favorite shows on television right now are Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. They're both event-type television. In other words, when Sunday night rolls around and either show is set to come on, it's not just a show that's coming on... it's a life moment.
The key problem, though, is that in both cases, if you get too attached to characters on either show, you better be careful. Like a bad relationship, you could very easily get hurt. This article will deal with The Walking Dead, though, and the show's creator swearing a certain character is safe. Can we really trust him, though?
TWD creator Robert Kirkman claims that Carol is safe. Although, knowing this show, that's not necessarily true. Here's what he said during a panel at New York Comic-Con:
“The Carol that’s in the comic was my attempt to show just how broken an individual can become from the zombie apocalypse. The Carol in the show, which is a much better character let’s be honest, actually is made stronger by all the more horrible things that happen to her in the show. Killing her would definitely not…we can’t do that.”
A lot of these characters have been through a whole lot. Carol is obviously a mature woman as far as the regular world is concerned, but I would argue her maturation process as it pertains to living around effing zombies was monumental.
It takes more than a few walkers killing people she cares about to get Carol down now. She's truly bad-ass and it hasn't been an overnight thing. She's had to transform into who she's become over the span of 5 seasons.
I hear Kirkman and it alleviates some stress for me, but depending on how they wrap up the series, I really don't know what to believe. Sure, Carol's death would be devastating, but isn't that what this show has kind of become? I guess we'll have to wait and see. But you don't have to wait long to get some more answers...
'The Walking Dead' season 6 episode 2 airs Sunday at 9pm on AMC.
