I love all things zombie and having suspense drawn out to build up tension. I like out right jumps and i appreciate a good scare.

I have often wondered if movies were able to make someone physically feel happier just by watching them. Studies suggest that major points in our life involve movies as therapy , such as a typical break-up for a woman, then Bridget Jones' Diary could be theraputic in that situation.

As I have an auto-immune disorder known as Lupus, I often go through stages of depression, feeling deflated and fatigued. I never noticed until recently but when I feel low or "bummed out"- I turn to movies. And why not? Most movies include a feel good factor such as the hero winning. These are all positive reinforcements of defiance. Even a movies soundtrack can lift your mood. Iconic ones such as the Ghostbuster's theme can instantly make me feel better. I am not alone in this either. Everyone I meet, generally, has their own "feel-good" film. And because my illness can affect me in varying degrees, I have certain films for certain occasions. Here is my "feel -good" list

The Alien Quadrilogy

Ripley is awesome
Ripley is awesome

The situation will determine which movie from the Aliens franchise i will watch. However, number 2 is generally my all round 'go-to' film for when I am not feeling well. I find these films very uplifting. The mere fact that this is a legendary franchise always helps with my mood. It makes me realise that it could be worse! Alien's soundtrack and dialogue are truly legendary in the movie realm. If for some reason you have not watched these (seriously, why not?) then give them a try!

Romeo And Juliet

Juliet and Romeo
Juliet and Romeo

Let me be clear here. When I mention Romeo and Juliet, I mean Clare Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio's version. The tragedy behind this movie and the cinematography are marvels to behold. From classic lines such as " Romeo, Romeo, Where for art thou Romeo?" and " Two households, both alike in dignity- in fair Verona where we lay our scene...." and an epic, modern soundtrack, this film never fails to satisfy me. I find it very comforting to watch and I enjoy it, this makes me feel more uplifted. Again, if you have not watched it, then, please do!

Sucker Punch

Babydoll and The Gang.
Babydoll and The Gang.

Sucker Punch is an immense and complex movie with one hell of a backing track, and it kicks ass from start to finish. It is filled with beautiful femme fatales that overthrow the establishment. The effects and dialogue in this movie help lift me up when I am feeling not as happy as usual (with mild depression). The defiance they show helps me face things that are going on in my life. The film is very inspirational to myself. Again, if you have not seen this please do! It is unique and original and that is hard to do in modern day society, that is hard to achieve! I would still highly recommend this film despite the critics not liking it very much. To me it is a wonder to behold.

The Harry Potter Series

"You're a wizard, Harry"
"You're a wizard, Harry"

This is another series where I pick certain films for different moods. However, watching any movie about these wizards in their defiant struggle seems to help with my mood. They are full of positive reinforcements which psychologically seems to help myself. Also if you haven't watched these-where have you been? Please watch them, they are now classic movies in their own right.

The Karate Kid

Daniel and Mr Miagi are legendary.
Daniel and Mr Miagi are legendary.

The Karate Kid is definitely a classic movie, right up there with The Godfather series, Mad Max', Aliens etc. The wholesome undertones to this film, and over coming adversary help to achieve it's legendary status. Who could forget the infamous 'crane kick'? And just how adrenaline filled we all felt when watching that scene? With life lessons throughout not least of all why 'wax on, wax off' was actually about karate , this movie helped define a generation. People could relate to the struggles, and I would be surprised if Karate sales did not go after it's release up as well!. Again, if you haven't seen it, then-watch it. That's how great this movie was to me. Just watch it and form your own opinion.

Guardians of the Galaxy

"We Are Groot"
"We Are Groot"

This film also has a wicked soundtrack to it. The story is simple, yet complex. The character's are heroic, funny, courageous and stupid all at the same time. There are sad moments in this film, but there are also good moments. The movie has brought about a new generation of Marvel fans who saw this as their first Marvel film. This movie makes me feel all round better, regardless of how bad my situation seems. Also, if for some reason you have not seen this film, then please do. The actors and actress' in it are phenomenal, the soundtrack is good and the humour is amazing.

However, movies are not the only thing that can lift my mood. There are a few TV shows that have a positive effect too. Such as...

Impractical Jokers

"Larry!"
"Larry!"

This programme never fails to make me laugh with it's simple (but effective) premise! '4 life long friends compete to embarrass each other' . It is a group of friends, collectively known as The Tenderloins, who try their best to embarrass the other jokers. This is one of the funniest shows, if not THE funniest show around right now. If you have not watched it please do - it will make your life better. I have cried with laughter at this show and, in this day and age, that is not an easy thing to do.

My personal favourite, 'Skoopsie Potatoes' featured below.

What do you think? Can a movie make you feel better? What movie do you love to watch again and again? Let me know in the comments section below, but for now folks - Ciao!
