Good news for fans of the revamped Planet of the Apes series: on Oct. 17, Matt Reeves, director of War for the Planet of the Apes, released the first picture from the set. Check out the picture below:

Captioned "It has begun", the snapshot shows a landscape that should be familiar to fans of the original movies: two figures on horseback riding along a sandy beach. Who's to say if the ruined Statue of Liberty lies nearby, but it's interesting to note that the figure standing next to the horse appears to have an elaborate camera setup attached to their head. These rigs are used to capture facial expressions to make the animated apes more realistic, so what we have before us is likely a scene where an ape sends two humans away on a horse.

War for the Planet of the Apes is due to hit theaters on July 14, 2017 and will star newcomers Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn alongside returning mo-cap authority and legendary actor Andy Serkis.
