Jean-Luc Godard, a famous French film director, once said that: "All you need for a movie is a gun and a girl." Godard has been making films since 1960 and is one of the main directors of the famous "New Wave" movement. Eventhough the films that are made today may not have been the New Wave films he had in mind back then, this quote still makes a lot of sense to me! I LOVE movies with badass female characters that know how to use a gun.
Here are some of the most awesome/badass Girls&Guns movies!
(There are of course a lot more, but I am just naming a few)
1. Sucker Punch (2011)
You either love this one, or you hate it. Or at least, that is my experience. In my eyes, director Zack Snyder created a true masterpiece with this one. Despite what this picture may lead you to believe, Sucker Punch is actually a very psychological movie, with an interesting plotline and a complicated ending that not everyone interprets the same. Within this story, there are some amazing action scenes with girls, guns and even swords. These fight-scenes contain dragons, robots, nazi-zombies and even things that look like orcs. If you are looking for an action movie with some amazing fighting and hot girls with guns but still want it to have a more deep, dramatic and psychological story, this is the one for you.
2. Hansel & Gretel, Witch Hunters
Everyone knows the old story of how the young Hansel and Gretel were abandoned in the woods and how they were captured by a cannibalistic witch after eating off of her edible house. Of course, the young sibblings escape. But what happens after? This movie answers that question. They grew up to be badass witch hunters. Just a warning, don't expect a very serious movie. This movie is filled with funny moments and hilarious one-liners. Hansel and Gretel have a collection of weird guns and other weapons to fight these witches and you have to admit that Gretel looks good with a gun. Gretel has grown up to be a badass witch hunter and therefore earns herself and her movie a spot on this list.
Of course, Scarlett Johansson could be put on this list for several movies. Her character Nastasha Romanoff/Black Widow from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also a badass girl that knows her guns, but Lucy is a movie that revolves around Scarlett. If Marvel would ever decide to make a solo-movie for Black Widow (PLEASE MARVEL, PLEASE!), that movie would probably end up on my list as well. In the movie Lucy, Lucy has a little accident with some drugs and she ends up using more and more of her brain. (No kids, this is not an encouragement to do drugs.) She turns into a merciless killer and kills everyone that stands in her way. She has a goal to achieve. She wants to get back at the people that got her into this mess in the first place. She wants revenge. This movie is really interesting because it gets you to think about what would happen if this was actually possible. What would happen is people could really evolve like this and use more and more of their brains?
4. Resident Evil movies
There are already five Resident Evil movies released, and Alice is the main character in every single one of these movies. Five movies filled with badass. The movies are based on a series of videogames, revolving around killing zombies. This is also a huge part of the movies. Killing zombies is something that Alice is very good at. Eventhough her character is not even in the videogames, Milla Jovovich still makes for an awesome strong female main character for these movies. Having played the videogames, I really enjoy watching these movies because they have the exact same atmosphere as the games, even if the characters are different.
Milla Jovovich is the perfect badass girl with guns. Alice is biologically altered wich provides her with some superhuman abilities that make her even more awesome. There is nothing she can't handle.
5. Underworld movies
Maybe the picture says it all. Some guys may only have watched this movie because she is hot and dressed in leather, but the film also has some other good qualities. First of all, she is a vampire killing both werewolves and other vampires. People might think that the vampire-werewolf genre has been done too many times, but this film feels a bit different to me. The main character Selene does not feel like other female main characters in vampire movies. No guys, thats not only because she is hot and dressed in leather. Selene is the rebel we all love with the fighting skills we all love to look at. The perfect badass. (And I also saw somewhere online that she drives a sweet car, but I did not really pay attention to that)
