Lock up your dolls... we're getting another Annabelle movie! After the phenomenal success of the first Annabelle standalone, which made $250M from a production budget of only $6.5M, New Line would be foolish to neglect the cash potential of a follow-up film.
Sure, Annabelle wasn't as good as The Conjuring and certainly disappointed some fans, but hopefully Annabelle 2 will have more time to develop and get back to her horrific roots.
Screenwriter Gary Dauberman will return to write Annabelle 2, Tracking Board reports, and it'll be interesting what kind of plot he decides on. Horror movies based on horrible real life cases are usually a safe bet for a terrifying storyline, but Chucky creator Don Mancini has some pretty interesting ideas... Speaking to USA Today, Don explained his wild doll horror dreams:
I am hoping that at some future point we have Annabelle and Chucky team up. We would be into it, the only problem is that we are in different studios. That would probably be years worth of red tape to work it out. But if it all could be worked out, then yes, we're very into it.
The idea of Annabelle and Chucky uniting to create one giant doll horror for the ages is desirable but probably fairly unlikely, despite the existing connection between the franchises: Annabelle director John Leonetti worked as DOP for Child's Play 3.
Still, it's fun to think about what would happen if Annabelle and Chucky had an evil doll fight... Don Mancini thinks that Annabelle's feminine wiles may be the key to some real destruction:
From what I see, her fighting style is very subtle. I want to know if she has some secret moves. The bride of Chucky is going to be very upset if Chucky starts to stray. If I were Annabelle, I'd be watching my back.
