In the right hands, make-up can be one of the most powerful ways to conceal, accentuate or entirely transform a look. And when it comes to Halloween, if you're prepared to slather on the slap and hone a relatively good technique, you're in for a treat!
From the mind-boggling, to the glamorous, to the downright disturbing, the following 8 make-up ideas will provide some inspiration for your costume this Halloween. Prepare for your jaw to drop because these are some of the best transformation I have ever seen!
1. Billy the Dummy from Dead Silence
Pinkstylist has an array of awesome make-up ideas, this one being my favorite. All ventriloquist dummies are terrifying, but this one especially so. Take a look at how he achieves the look below:
2. Harley Quinn
In anticipation of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of people decided to channel Harley Quinn's loopy look this Halloween. And out of the ones I've seen, this one by beeisforbeauty is the most accessible because it combined elements from the Joker too, making it perfect for guys too!
Take a look at how she does it:
3. Elsa from Frozen
With winter just around the corner, you'd do well channeling a bit of frosted glam this Halloween. And Promise Phan's YouTube channel is riddled with phenomenal make-up ideas -- like this stunning Elsa for example.
Take a look at the step-by-step process of how she achieves the icy look in the tutorial below:
4. Ouija-inspired silenced mouth
All chatterboxes should stay clear of this one because once it's done, you'll really struggle to talk without messing up the effect.
Australian Bonnie Corban channeled a bit of Ouija to create this sickening pinned/stitched-up mouth look.
5. Zipper Face
Gross everyone out with this absolutely disgusting open zipper face, which is bound to make anyone talking to you want to vom a little in their mouth.
BreeAnn Barbie is an absolute pro when it comes to creating these grotesque special effects, and now you can do it too:
6. Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy
Everyone will go green with envy when you rock up to a party looking like Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy. Although you may think that all it takes is a little bit of paint on your face, artist pixiwoo takes it a step further with her attention to detail when it comes to the facial markings.
Zoe Saldana would be proud.
7. Trippy Double Vision
Yep, Promise Phan has done it again. This time with an absolutely mad double vision effect that is making me dizzy just looking at it!
If you've got the patience to stick on those false eyelashes, rest assured that the results will be amazing. And if you don't believe me, just check out all those people doing a double-take when they see her on the street at the end of the tutorial video below:
8. Killer Snail
Yet if you're really willing to pull out all the stops and show off your SFX make-up skills, why not put in the hours to recreate this horrific snail face.
The key is to get hold of some latex and polymorph plastic to create a concoction of materials to stick onto your face.
