Mark this date folks, 19th October 2015, because Netflix has closed a deal to reviving the legendary Gilmore Girls for a limited-series, consisting of four 90-minute episodes! Lorelai and Rory are making their long anticipated return!
According to a report from TV Line:
Sources confirm that Netflix has closed a deal with Warner Bros. for a limited-series revival of Gilmore Girls penned by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and exec producer Daniel Palladino.
Furthermore, according to TVLine, while negotiations with the cast are just under way however, major cast members Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson are all set to return.
We are now left wondering if any other familiar faces will return to the series, perhaps Supernatural's Jared Padalecki or Heroes' Milo Ventimiglia, both of whom had major roles on the series. Or if Melissa McCarthy will return as the beloved Sookie St. James now that she is a fully fledged A-List movie star
Amy Sherman-Palladino has publicly alluded to the final four words she always intended Gilmore Girls to close with, but we have never gotten the opportunity to hear them. Well now we will finally get that chance! This new deal allows Sherman-Palladino — who left the original series prior to the final season amid a contract dispute with Warner Bros. — "to conclude Gilmore Girls as she always intended, right through to those elusive final four words".
Ever since the show's conclusion, there have been rumblings and rumours of a reunion. Even this past summer at the ATX Reunion Panel, many fans hoped we would hear an announcement. But we didn't hear anything about a reunion...until Now!
Gilmore Girls originally ran from 2000-2007, originally airing on The WB before transferring to The CW. Even though the show technically ended, nobody was happy to see it go. It has become a cult favourite and the internet recently exploded when Netflix obtained the rights to stream the whole series in HD. Well Netflix seems to be the gift that keeps on giving because Gilmore Girls now gets the chance that few shows ever get, the chance to make an almighty return and end the way it was supposed to. God Bless you Netflix!
One thing is for sure: We CAN'T WAIT to return to Stars Hollow!
