Some chalk it up to an over-active imagination, others say it's a trick of the light, but there are plenty of other people out there who are adamant about the fact that they've seen ghosts.

While I personally haven't experienced any encounters of the spectral variety myself, if I had I'm sure I would never shut up about it. Apparently celebrities are no less susceptible to visits from the other side.

Check out these 15 celebrities who have spoken about their experiences with the paranormal:

1. Patrick Stewart

Sir Patrick Stewart seems pretty nonchalant about his encounter with those from another world, perhaps because they share a love of the stage. When performing Waiting for Godot with Sir Ian McKellen, Stewart said he saw the ghost of actor-manager John Baldwin Buckstone in the theater. When McKellen asked what startled him, he responded calmly:

I just saw a ghost. On stage, during Act One.

2. Miley Cyrus

In 2013, the pop sensation told Elle UK about her ghostly encounters:

I thought I had seen a little boy sitting on the sink watching me take a shower so I felt really freaked out. I was sitting there the next night and maybe I’m crazy, but I could have sworn I could see this little boy sitting there on the sink, kicking his feet.

3. Keanu Reeves

Keanu's connection to this mysterious jacket could be chalked up to childhood imagination, but if any celebrity is likely to be visited by spirits it's probably Keanu Reeves.

4. Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey might be familiar with his ghosts of girlfriends past, but he's also pals with one specter he calls Madame Blue who definitely doesn't mind seeing him in the buff.

I get up with my dog Miss Hud and start running around buck naked with a bat to investigate. I go downstairs and there’s nothing there.
I now know it was her because I’ve seen Madame Blue since. She’s a cool ghost. Maybe me being nude all the time is why we get along.

5. Demi Lovato

Disney's Demi Lovato is far from afraid of ghosts. In fact, she seeks them out! She told Buzzfeed that she's been in contact with ghosts since she was a toddler:

I go ghost hunting. My house in Texas is so ridiculously haunted. Not by a bad spirit, but a little girl. I think her name is Emily. I've had a medium come over and ghost hunters, and they both told me the same name, Emily. There were so many times that I saw her when I was growing up. I saw her in my closet one time. When I was 3 years old my mom caught me talking to something by myself. She asked, “Who are you talking to?” and I said, “My best friend Emily.” She’s playful. She’d probably be around 11 or 12 years old, maybe younger.

6. Matt Bomer

The American Horror Story: Hotel star recently had a haunted hotel experience of his own which he talked about on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

7. Ke$ha

In true Anna Nicole Smith style, Ke$ha appeared on Conan to promote her latest album and also casually talk about her sexual encounters with a ghost. She creatively calls the act "the bone zone."

8. Lucy Liu

Possibly even more shocking of some seriously close encounters of the ghost kind, Kill Bill actress Lucy Liu reportedly also had sex with a ghost! In a 1999 interview with US Weekly she revealed that a quick nap onto the couch turned into a pretty hot and heavy situation:

It was sheer bliss. I felt everything. I climaxed. And then he floated away.

9. Shirley MacLaine

After working on the old grounds of the Downton Abbey castle, legendary actress Shirley MacLaine talked to New York Daily News about all that the walls had to offer:

It was a fantastic experience; Highclere was haunted, and the pictures came off the wall. The energy of the castle, grounds, [its] past and the hauntings was inspiring. I am very much into that stuff.

10. Selena Gomez

When asked if she believes in ghosts, Selena Gomez gives a definitive "yes" and has witnesses to back her up. Her house is haunted by a little girl in a white dress who is perhaps connected to a creepy dollhouse left by the previous owners. Creeeepy.

11. Ariana Grande

In the January 2014 issue of Complex Magazine, actress and recording artist Ariana Grande spoke in depth about coming in close contact with a ghost or demon just a few weeks prior, saying:

I've had a ghost/demon experience. We were in Kansas City a few weeks ago and went to this haunted castle and were so excited. The next night we wanted to go to Stull Cemetery, which is known as one of the seven gates to hell on Earth.
I felt this sick, overwhelming feeling of negativity over the whole car and we smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon. I was like, “This is scary, let’s leave.” I rolled down the window before we left and said, “We apologize. We didn't mean to disrupt your peace.” Then I took a picture and there are three super distinct faces in the picture -- they’re faces of textbook demons.

12. Tyler Blackburn

Pretty Little Liars actor appeared on Celebrity Ghost Stories to talk about his spooky encounter with a spirit. Maybe a fan of his who had already crossed over?

13. Peter Jackson

The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director might know his way around cinematic fantasy, but when it comes to real-life he's not quite as experienced. He told Britain's Channel 4 TV about his own terrifying experience:

I woke up one morning and there was a figure in the room, she was very scary, she had a screaming face, very accusatory, she was a lady about 50 years old.
It was terrifying actually, a very scary image and she was at the end of the bed and she glided across the room and disappeared into the wall.
I sat in bed and thought, have I really seen that?

14 & 15. Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson

Apparently having a sixth sense is genetic and two members of a Hollywood dynasty, Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson can both see dead people. Hudson spoke about this unusual talent on Alan Carr's Chatty Man:

It is not really seeing, it is feeling a spirit. A fifth energy. I believe in energy. I believe our brains can manifest into visual things.
When you see something, you are supposed to tell the energy what year it is and that they don't belong there. When your brain is freaking out on you, you may have to remind it.
