It's happening, guys! And it's getting realer by the second! Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment's Power Rangers movie has cast their Red Ranger and have announced their decision across various social media platforms, a move I thought they would've saved last for their Ranger-in-chief. But, whatever.
Joining the already announced Pink Ranger, cinema's latest Red Ranger will arrive in the form of the incredibly named Dacre Montgomery, an up and coming Australian actor who has two jobs to his name thus far: 2010's TV movie Family Tree and a short film named Betrand the Terrible.
While there is still very little known about the reboot, helmed by Project Almanac's Dean Israelite, the Rangers' super detailed character biographies were released a few months back to much pleasant surprise.
Here's a recap of Jason's:
17 years old, the makings of someone or something great if he would just get out of his own way. Jason was a legend of this town—a freshman quarterback with the skills to take him all the way. People knew his name. Children wore his jersey. Until, one night Jason wrapped his car around a pole and busted out his knee.
Everything Jason was going to become ended in an instant. And with it, he lost himself. When we meet him at the start of the film, he’s a kid in need of redemption. By the end, he’ll be leading this disparate group of teens to shed their individual baggage and find who they truly are.
So two down and three to go! Let's have a recap of the chosen teenagers with attitude that will be taking on the movie's extraterrestrial harbingers of doom:
Dacre Montgomery is Jason, the Red Ranger
Naomi Scott is Kimberley, the Pink Ranger
