After spending countless hours trying to purchase a ticket for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I finally succeeded once the sites were up and running again. Every single ticket selling website including the bigger chains like Regal Cinemas and AMC Theaters crashed multiple times. The hype for this film could not have been greater as millions of die hard fans waited in anticipation for Chip Kelly and the Eagles to finish their drive at the half for one thing and one thing only: to witness the OFFICIAL Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer:

Now before I begin my list I’d like to congratulate the genius marketing of Lucasfilm. They have kept everything under wraps and no spoilers have hit the internet thus far. Their marketing could not have been better than what they have given us. J.J. Abrams and company knows what fans want to see in a trailer and boy did they deliver. We have now observed a good amount from the film yet we still don’t know what the story actually entails. Sure we know the original cast is back and the newer characters will be playing a vital role, however at this point we don’t know what to expect. And that’s exactly the point. There are reasons why spoilers haven’t leaked. There are reasons why we haven’t seen Luke Skywalkers’ face. There are reasons why so many questions have not been answered.

Lucasfilm knows how to whet our appetite and we only have two more months to see what hopefully will be a great Star Wars film. Some of our speculations have been answered from the latest trailer, however there’s still a great deal that will only be justified when the film is released in theaters on July 17. This movie will bring together new and old fans alike as I’d like to share with you my “5 BIG Reveals From The Latest Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer.”

#1. The Force is a Legend (or so people think)

Thirty years have passed since the events of Return of the Jedi. This scene depicts Rey, Finn, and Han Solo with Rey proclaiming, “Those stories about what happened…” The hesitation by Rey here tell us a great deal that it seems as though the stories of the past were passed down as mere legend. It’s surprising to hear that many people over the years were fooled into believing that the Jedi, the dark side, and the force were all a myth. We all remember that famous line Solo said in A New Hope when he told both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker that the Force is just some “hokey religion.”

"It's true. All of it."
"It's true. All of it."

Han went even further stating,

“Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe there’s one all-powerful Force controlling everything. There’s no mystical energy field that controls my destiny! It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.”

Well after everything he’s been through, the Force truly is real and the dark side is at an all time high. It’s all too real for Han and company as they are now facing a greater threat than ever before. The Force may have been dormant for a long time, but now it’s reawakening as the title states.

#2. Kylo Ren Worshiping Vader’s Helmet and the Knights of Ren

“Nothing will stand in our way. I will finish, what you started.”

That menacing voice of Kylo Ren sounds a lot like he’s trying to mimic a certain someone by the name of Darth Vader. Ren is shown here gazing at Vader’s burnt helmet insisting that he will get the job done that Vader started. The real question is, what wasn’t finished by Vader? The obvious assumption might be to exterminate the remaining Jedi that are living throughout the galaxy. Or could it possibly be what Lord Sidious promised to Vader about the power of immortality and how you can actually save someone from dying. The dark side appears to be strong with this one as we also see Ren torturing Poe Dameron perhaps placing visions in his head of the future. We also get a glimpse of what looks like a planet getting wiped out by possibly the new Death Star aka Starkiller Base.

We then get our first impression of the Knights of Ren. If you look closely at Kylo Ren front and center, you will see that he is holding what looks to be a lightsaber in his left hand. Could this be Luke’s old lightsaber from the one that fell in Cloud City? Or could it be someone else’s? Also, why are they hunting down these artifacts? Either way, these knights mean business and they don’t appear as very good negotiators. You wanted to know why Lucasfilm hired actors from The Raid franchise? Well, here’s your answer.

#3. Leias’ Reunion or Goodbye to Han

This one brief shot at Leia from the trailer tells us all we need to know. These two appear to not have seen each other for a very long time. Could they have been married then had a divorce during the past thirty years? I’m sure this will all be explained by Abrams however the above shot also could tell us something much more heartbreaking… Han’s goodbye.

Yes my dear friends this day may finally have come. For those who truly understand the history of Star Wars, will know that the stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder was supposed to have met his end in either The Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. Harrison Ford held a grudge against Lucas for a very long time wishing to have been killed in battle while dying as a hero. Well, Ford may actually get his wish in this upcoming film as rumors have stated that he plays the most pivotal role out of all the original characters from the classic trilogy. This would not be a surprise if Han was to bite the dust at some point however the next reveal might actually help solidify this.

#4. RIP Old Friend

It is tough to tell just from this one image, but it appears that the hairy beast lying down next to Rey is none other than Chewbacca himself. For those who are aware of the extended universe, Chewbacca does actually perish which caused a lot of fan backlash (although this obviously is not canon). It’s already enough if Abrams decides to kill off one of the most beloved characters but to also kill Chewie would be like murdering the family dog.

Now Abrams would have to have a very good reason for doing this. I’m not going to say that I’m totally against killing off our furry friend, but I have to think that at some point in this trilogy, that everyone who we’ve known since the originals will be killed off at some point. That also includes Leia as well as Luke. Without his best friend and loyal companion, the pair would cease to exist which leads me to believe that Chewie may perish. You can't have Han without Chewie just like you also can't cookies without milk.

#5. Finn Knows How to Wield a Lightsaber

Finn clearly has his work cut out for him here as we see Kylo Ren coming at him full force (pardon the pun). From this quick glance at Finn, we see him wielding what could be Luke’s former lightsaber. He definitely appears to have been trained using one even though he’s fearful of who he’s fighting against. It would not surprise me if this battle is very short. Ren clearly has the upper hand and should make quick use of Finn in this duel. Is it possible that some of these stormtroopers who fight in the First Order are going to be trained in the ways of the Force? It’s hard to say but there was one shot from the trailer that makes me believe this:

From this shot of the trailer, we continue to hear Han Solo’s voice informing both Rey and Finn that “The dark side; the Jedi; they’re real.” However, when Solo mentions “The Jedi,” the panoramic view from this very scene focuses directly on Finn possibly telling us that either he has trained in the ways of the Force or will one day become the next Jedi.

J.J. Abrams has done a phenomenal job thus far ramping up our anticipation for the film. We must all be careful however not to give ourselves too high of expectations for this film. We all know what happened to The Phantom Menace and I believe part of it was because we couldn’t wait for another Star Wars film. Obviously, it’s not one of the better films but I do enjoy it for what it is.

I have no doubt in my mind that we will be watching a fantastic film. Everything I’ve read and heard about thus far has been positive. I am grateful that Lucasfilm is continuing this legacy of the Star Wars universe. Abrams will kick off what appears to be a tremendous story and I cannot wait to see what this film has in store for us.

So we literally have less than two months away for this movie! From this trailer, what stood out to you the most? Has your anticipation grown after viewing the latest trailer? I’d love to hear your thoughts below and please share!
