Well, more like he will be the Wizard!

The Daredevil star has been cast as The Wizard of Oz in Emerald City, the new NBC drama based on the novels by L. Frank Baum.

This versions of The Wizard is being described as “the enigmatic leader of Emerald City. A man of science in a world of magic, he rules through inspiration, fear and a tenuous accord with the grand witches.”

After being squashed by a house in 2014, April this year saw NBC order it straight to series with David Schulner (Trauma) serving as writer for the series with Shaun Cassidy (Invasion) assisting in executive producer duties alongside Schulner.

“Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is transported to another world — a mystical land in great peril, where an all-powerful Wizard has outlawed magic and rules over the many kingdoms. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before — where lethal warriors roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows and a young girl from Kansas becomes the headstrong hero who holds the fate of their world in her hands.”

Tarsem Singh, who had previously worked on The Cell with D’Onofrio, will direct while Adria Arjona (True Detective) has been casting as Dorothy Gale.

I LOVE The Wizard of Oz, it's one of my favourite movies but all these other versions scare me. I've never seen Return To Oz, Oz: The Great and Powerful was horrendous and Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return looks horrible so there is some doubt to how good this series will be.

So far, with all the adaptations of this story, it has been 50/50 between being watchable and plain crap! Hopefully NBC can turn it into a decent story but having D’Onofrio in their cast certainly helps peak my interest.
