After a somewhat shaky start, The Legend of Korra went from strength to strength, wowing fans with exciting plots and ending the show on a thrilling finale. But this isn't the last we're going to hear from the Avatar team: in addition to another volume of their Last Airbender comic, creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino are planning a Legend Of Korra comic to continue the story after season 4!
Announced at SDCC, the Legend Of Korra comic won't skip any time, but will begin the plot as Korra and Asami return from their Spirit World vacation. We've had no hints about what the story will be just yet, but recently Dark Horse revealed the Marvel comic artist who will work on the series. With a huge world to explore and lots of unanswered questions from the show, there's no doubt that the Legend Of Korra comic will be action packed! So here's what we would love to see in the new story...
Mako's Reaction To Korrasami
Soon after the finale aired, the creators officially confirmed that yes, Korra and Asami fell in love.
The final moments of the finale were intended to mirror the previous wedding ceremony, using symbolism to confirm the characters' feelings for each other, as Michael DiMartino revealed.
"Our intention with the last scene was to make it as clear as possible that yes, Korra and Asami have romantic feelings for each other. The moment where they enter the spirit portal symbolizes their evolution from being friends to being a couple."
The only piece of news about the comics' story we've had so far is that the plot will definitely focus on Korra and Asami, which is good news for all you Korrasami shippers (myself included). So number one on this wishlist has to be Mako's reaction to Korra and Asami's new romance: after dating both of them (and not really being the most mature about handling the slight overlap), Mako will definitely have an interesting opinion on this development! And we might just get a reaction worthy of rivaling the Bolin crying meme...
Mako isn't one to burst into tears, but we're definitely expecting some kind of hilarious reaction!
Return Of Recurring Characters
There are plenty of characters that played vital roles in previous seasons but have yet to reappear in the show. Though we'd love to see some new characters in the Legend Of Korra comic, it would also be great to see some old favourites return. Here are our top picks:
Izumi: as the daughter of Zuko, many fans were hoping to see a lot from Firelord Izumi, but unfortunately she only appears in one season 4 episode, and then we don't get to see much of her personality. Izumi's absence from the show is in part due to the Fire Nation not playing a huge role in the story, but we'd love to see more from this country too!
- General Iroh: we did get to see quite a lot of Izumi's son considering he's not a main character, and he even came back at the end of season 4. But it would still be nice to see Iroh outside his military profession, maybe visiting Republic City on vacation?
Kya: she had a great role in season 2, and returned to help out Korra again in season 3. But after the time jump, we didn't hear much from her and she was only seen briefly in flashbacks. It would be great if she and Bumi could return to Republic City, and no doubt continue teasing their brother Tenzin!
Sokka: only seen once in a flashback in season 1, Sokka's life after AtLA is maybe the most mysterious of the original gang's. What job did he have? How instrumental was he in founding Republic City? Did he and Suki stay together? All questions we'd love to see answered!
- Wan: ok, as the first Avatar it's unlikely we'll see Wan hang out with the gang. But it would still be nice to have some more flashbacks to his time as the Avatar, or even get some communication between him and Korra!
And there are plenty more characters we'd like to see: let us know your picks in the comments!
New Bending Forms
Since Avatar: The Last Airbender began, we've discovered far more bending forms than the traditional ones. Lightning bending, metal bending, lava bending, energy bending, blood bending... the list goes on and on, and with each addition comes new and exciting ways of using the elements. It would be great to see a new bending form that again uses an element in a different way.
Or how about an advanced form of bending, based on the spiritual properties of the element (like waterbending leading to healing abilities). The creators could delve into some world building for this, and also further explore how a person's chi affects their ability to bend.
Hey remember that awesome civilisation from Avatar: The Last Airbender who totally chilled with dragons?
These people were hugely instrumental in Aang learning how to firebend, as their philosophy altered how he (and the audience) viewed fire: not as the element of destruction, but of life. They only appeared in one episode, The Firebending Masters, which leaves plenty of unanswered questions. How do they fit into the more modern world as seen in Legend Of Korra? Are they still an elusive, isolated people or did they adapt?
Plus, Korra and the gang traveling to the Sun Warriors' civilisation would give us another chance to see the dragons and let's face it, that's always good. It would also be great to see more from the Fire Nation itself, and learn how the culture developed after Ozai's oppressive rule was over.
