Hey guys, it's been a while, but we are officially back at it. We are rebooting the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you need a refresher, here's the skinny. In this "What If?" scenario, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being rebooted and they have the rights to all of their properties (including X-Men, FF, etc). Any and every actor is available, however, no roles can be reprised by somebody who has already played said character before. If you want to go back and look, here are Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3.
Fans have wanted Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, to join the MCU for a while now. However, they wanted him to enter as Miles Morales. I never really understood this because Miles is supposed to be a teenager, and Glover, despite being an amazing actor, is in his thirties. He would be an exemplary Sam Wilson, though. Falcon is a big character in both Marvel comics and the movies right now (currently being tremendously performed by Anthony Mackie), and Donald Glover has what it takes to bring him to a new life.
Gen. Thunderbolt Ross a.k.a Red Hulk/Robert De Niro
Red Hulk is a fan favorite character in Marvel comics. General Ross is also a very popular character. Most fans know him as a major antagonist for the Hulk. He has been previously portrayed by William Hurt. I think if the franchise had to be rebooted, Robert De Niro could take Thunderbolt Ross to a whole new level. Robert De Niro is possibly one of the best actors in the world, so why wouldn't he give an outstanding performance.
Scott Lang/Glenn Howerton
Scott Lang, the second Ant-Man. This is the Ant-Man that Marvel chose to use in their cinematic universe (portrayed by Paul Rudd). In my MCU, I cast Neil Patrick Harris as Hank Pym as Ant-Man. Unlike the movies, in the comics Hank Pym was not much older than Scott Lang. Lang had just stolen the Pym Particles to help him rob banks so he could pay for his daughter. He proved to be heroic, so Pym let him keep the name Ant-Man. Glenn Howerton from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame would be a perfect addition to our cast, especially as Scott Lang. A movie like Ant-Man needs comedy to keep it going. Howerton has proven he definitely has a funny bone. Fun Fact: Glenn Howerton was in the running to play Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but ultimately lost the role to Chris Pratt.
Wonder Man/Joe Manganiello
Wonder Man is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated Avengers. People tend to forget how important he is. He has very close ties to the Vision and Ultron. Not only this, but Wonder Man is a founding member of the West Coast Avengers. If Marvel ever decided to bring Wonder Man to the big screen, Joe Manganiello would be the best fit. He more than looks the part, and he's proven his acting ability in Magic Mike and Sabotage.
The Punisher is a fan favorite character. He is a man with no super powers. All he has are his guns. He's been previously portrayed on film by Thomas Jane and is currently going to be portrayed by Jon Bernthal on Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil. Tom Hardy is one of the biggest actors out there right now. Fans love him. He's demonstrated his incredible acting ability in Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight Rises.
Cable is one of Marvel's biggest X-Men, and despite doing a whole movie about time travelling X-Men, Cable has not been seen on screen. If he were, however, I think Dolph Lundgren would be a great choice. Lundgren looks like Cable. He would definitely have to bulk up a little more, but the dude is already huge.
Miles Morales/Michael B. Jordan
Just because I didn't cast him as Donald Glover, doesn't mean he wouldn't be cast. Miles Morales is a big character in Marvel comics right now. He is on Marvel's official Avengers team as of now too. Michael B. Jordan would be better to portray him. He's a lot younger than Donald Glover, being only 28. Jordan is also an amazing actor. Fantastic Four flopped, but Jordan's portrayal as Johnny Storm was one of the few good things about that movie. His also showed how good of an actor he is in Chronicle and That Awkward Moment.
Pyro is one of the X-Men's biggest enemies. This guy is a big member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. If Marvel were to introduce him an all new X-Men movie, Scott Caan would be the way to go. Caan has yet to break through onto the big screen, but has proven his acting abilities on shows such as Hawaii Five-0 and Entourage.
Toad/Robin Lord Taylor
Another member of the Brotherhood, Toad. Robin Lord Taylor is the perfect choice to play Toad. He's proven how well he can play the villain as seen as his portrayal as Oswald Cobblepot on Gotham. The way he acts in that show and his character from Would You Rather? show he can play the annoying pest that Toad is to the X-Men.
Rounding out the Brotherhood is everybody's favorite shape shifter, Mystique! Mystique has been portrayed already by two different actresses (Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence). Emma Stone is one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood today. If anybody could play Mystique, it is definitely her.
Mole Man/Danny DeVito
Honestly, does this one really need any explanation? Try and name an actor better for this role, I dare you.
Kang the Conqueror/Andy Serkis
Kang the Conqueror is one of the biggest villains of both the Avengers AND the Fantastic Four. He would make for an amazing villain for a cross over event. A character like Kang would certainly require a lot of CGI and motion capture, however. Who better to do this than the motion capture king, Andy Serkis. Serkis has mo capped iconic characters such as Gollum from The Lord of the Rings and Caesar from Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He is currently in Marvel's MCU playing Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther.
Well that's going to wrap up this installment of my MCU recasting! Leave comments letting me know if you guys still want more. Which characters do you want to see me recast?
