This November, Marvel fans will give thanks to Jessica! Since NETFLIX and MARVEL/DISNEY decided to hold hands and dance, comic book fans like myself have been treated to nothing less than awesome. Daredevil was just the beginning. If you haven't seen it already, the new trailer for Marvel/Netflix Jessica Jones starring Krysten Ritter gives us a glimpse of another hit show for a Marvel character.
Like Daredevil, this new addition to the Marvel TV universe will be a trip into the dark world of superhumans Jessica Jones promises to be as harsh as it can get, as the Marvel hero goes up against a mind controlling killer named Purple Man. Originally a foe of Daredevil, debuting in vol. 1 #4 (October 1964), his body produces pheromones which allow him to verbally control the actions of others. In the comics, he is one of the most sadistic villains of all time. I would go as far as to say he is a borderline horror movie character. In the Marvel Comics, Purple Man (David Tennant), whose real name is 'Zebediah Killgrave,' used his mind control powers to subdue Jessica Jones, forcing her to live with him while psychologically torturing Jessica for several months, leaving her traumatized and riddled with PTSD for life. Jones began to lose the distinction between his will and her own, developing a kind of Stockholm Syndrome. The trailer definitely points to this dark period of Jessica Jones past.
The Perfect Madman?
Netflix Jessica Jones promises to be a mind bending, roller coaster ride into the mentally macabre. Some of the scenes in the trailer show another of Purple Man's victims, suffering from obvious mental and emotional trauma. There is also a scene where Purple Man uses his power to victimize the NYPD as well. Known to sexually abuse his victims, Purple Man will no doubt leave viewers disturbed as we see into the mind of a super powered rapist and madman.
Jessica Jones History
Jessica Jones also promises to be action packed and does not hold back the superhuman element as the trailer shows Jessica using her 'powers'. Besides being a talented private investigator, Jessica has super-human strength and has the ability to fly. It also marks the debut of another extremely popular Marvel hero, Power Man himself, Luke Cage played by Mike Colter. Jessica's baby daddy will have a show of his own next year on Netflix as well.
So, when the series finally hits the screen, we can all expect a crazy ride. The limits are definitely going to be tested with Jessica Jones. The whole season debuts only on Netflix November 20th.
