Details below on Sir John Hurts appearance at Gallifrey One.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that acting legend SIR JOHN HURT, who brought the ‘missing link’ in the Doctor’s past — the War Doctor, from the 50th anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor” — to life, will be headlining the 2016 Gallifrey One convention, in an appearance sponsored by Showmasters Events.
With a career spanning six decades, Sir John Hurt is famous on both sides of the Atlantic, and his career spans such memorable characters as Caligula in I, Claudius; Kane, the first victim of Alien; the Turkish prisoner Max in Midnight Express, for which Sir John won a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for an Academy Award; John Merrick in The Elephant Man, winning a BAFTA for Lead Actor and receiving Oscar and Golden Globe nominations; Winston Smith, the lead character of 1984; shopkeeper Ollivander in the Harry Potter series; the voice of the dragon Kilgarrah in five seasons of Merlin; and many other films such as Watership Down, Frankenstein Unbound, The Black Cauldron, Love and Death on Long Island, Hellboy, V for Vendetta, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Snowpiercer and countless other film and television appearances. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2004, and was knighted in the 2015 New Year Honours.
Sir John Hurt appeared briefly at the end of “The Name of the Doctor” as a new incarnation of the Doctor between the Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston incarnations, appearing in full in the 50th anniversary special. More recently, Sir John was in the news after receiving an all-clear from physicians having battled pancreatic cancer, to the delight of fans everywhere. It was at the same time that it was announced Sir John had agreed to appear in twelve full-cast Doctor Who audio plays, as the War Doctor, for Big Finish Productions, the first release coming this December.
Sir John will appear on our stage for multiple interview/Q&A sessions for all of our attendees, hosted by long-time Gallifrey One guest and presenter Gary Russell; he will also be signing autographs throughout the weekend and participate in photo studio portraits with attendees, both for nominal fees. Public appearances by Sir John are few and far between, and we are thrilled that he has consented to join us for this rare opportunity to meet with Doctor Who fans.

showmasters As noted above, Sir John Hurt will be making this extremely rare personal appearance at our convention in February sponsored by our friends at Showmasters Events. Showmasters has been our valued partner in bringing many top names to our convention, guests we would be unable to bring to our attendees otherwise on our standard convention budget.
For 2016, Showmasters will continue to support these great guests at our convention (such as John Hurt, Colin Baker and Samuel Anderson, and many more to be announced closer to the event) by sponsoring additional optional features for our attendees. Through their website Convention Photo Shoots they will feature, in addition to all photo studio sessions, a number of added-value options for convention ticket holders including the following:
A special “TARDIS Tag” for those who want to save time during autographs and photos; the TARDIS Tag allows its bearer priority access to Showmasters-sponsored guest autograph sessions and all sponsored and non-sponsored photo studio sessions by allowing the bearer to bypass the line entirely (will be very limited and will go on sale soon)
A special John Hurt “Diamond Pass” exclusive package featuring a special daytime reception with the actor, included photo shoots and autographs, exclusive memorabilia and a TARDIS Tag (on sale now)
Our annual early evening guest receptions with John Hurt, Colin Baker and Samuel Anderson — to also include other convention guests to be announced closer to the event — that have proven very popular over the past several years (on sale now)
Green-screen backdrop photos with convention guests featuring a “Moment” prop from the show coming to this year’s convention.
Convention guest photo studio session tickets (some already on sale, some to go on sale in the weeks to come)
momentThese added options have become much-loved features of the convention for many of our attendees, while taking away nothing from the full weekend’s worth of interviews, Q&As, panel programming, science presentations, video, our dealers room and art show and so many other parts of the convention that are included in our standard one-price Gallifrey One event ticket. We are happy to offer these optional events for those who are interested and still provide three days of fun for everyone.
We’ll have more information about the receptions, our photo studio sessions with the remainder of our guests, more details about our program, and — as if you thought we were anywhere near being done — MORE guest announcements for the weekend as we draw closer to Gallifrey One: Station 27 in February 2016… so stay tuned!
