Leonardo DiCaprio has become arguably one of the most popular actors among critics and movie fans alike. He's had dozens of quality films to his name, including huge blockbusters, biopics and of course, some compelling romances.

Even so, he's still got a very packed schedule of upcoming films that we're going to be looking at in this article. From psychological thrillers to book adaptations, we're going to look at them all!

1. The Black Hand

  • Release date: 2018
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

The first film on DiCaprio's slate of movies is a drama: The Black Hand. Based on the 2008 Stephen Talty book of the same name, the plot follows Joe Petrosino, a police officer seeking justice against an Italian-American gang in New York. This film is currently slated for a 2018 release date, but so far there's no director or writer attached to the project.

2. The Ballad Of Richard Jewell

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: Ezra Edelman
  • Cast: Jonah Hill

Leonardo DiCaprio will be linking up once again with Jonah Hill for a completely different story to the one we witnessed in The Wolf of Wall Street. The Ballad of Richard Jewell follows the story of an American security guard (Jonah Hill) who saves thousands of lives at the 1996 Olympics, but gets unjustly scrutinized by the press.

While we don't know DiCaprio's role yet, there'll no doubt be quite a lot of tension and thrilling suspense in this story. This movie is being directed by Ezra Edelman, who also directed the documentary, O.J.: Made in America. Expect a compelling story, as the film's screenplay is being written by Billy Ray, who wrote Captain Phillips. The Ballad of Richard Jewell is currently in development, and it could be a year or two until we see this one on the big screen. But like all DiCaprio movies, it'll most likely be worth waiting for.

3. Satori

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

This is the type of role that Leonardo DiCaprio excels in. He'll be playing a trained assassin in a post World War II Japan, where he's recruited by the CIA to eliminate a Soviet Commissioner. Once again, we'll see a slick, suit-wearing DiCaprio who means business. He does have that clinical assassin look about him. There's no director for this film so far, but the screenplay is being written by Shane Salerno, who wrote Armageddon, Shaft, and the 2012 drama, Savages. With so little confirmed, this thriller could be a while away, but get hyped now.

The trouble with this film is that it's been in production hell for years now, and it never really took off since its announcement in 2011. That's a common issue with Hollywood: sometimes amazing projects get put to the side and are never looked back upon, but every once in a while those projects get dug back up hopefully that's what will happen with Satori. We'll have to wait and see!

4. The Devil In The White City

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

Based on the 2003 book of the same name, The Devil In The White City is an amazing story on paper, and with the right team could make for an amazing movie. The plot follows DiCaprio's character H.H. Holmes, who uses the Chicago World's Fair to lure his victims — only women — back to his nearby hotel.

There's no doubt we'll see a sick, twisted side to DiCaprio that we haven't seen a whole lot of. The closest we've probably seen is his crazy character from Django Unchained, so this performance might bank a second Oscar for the veteran actor. This film won't be for everybody, but with Martin Scorsese directing and Billy Ray writing the screenplay, we definitely have a quality movie on the way.

5. Blood On Snow

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

Quite possibly the most intriguing movie on this list and based on Jo Nesbo's novel of the same name, Leo will probably be playing a hitman who ends up falling in love with his client's wife (who just so happens to be his next assassination target). The plot sounds like it will have a similar tone to Inception, with a bit more romance. DiCaprio is one of the world's best when it comes to perfecting the balance between slick and romance, so he should knock this one out of the park.

Daniel Espinosa, who directed Safe House, Child 44 and Easy Money, will take the reigns as director in a move that could really propel his name in Hollywood, despite his lack of success with Child 44.

6. Conquest

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

Conquest is a film that was only announced two years ago, and there hasn't been much progress on production since. The film's rights are owned by Paramount Pictures, who hired Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) to pen the script. So far, the plot is unknown, but we'll surely find out more details when DiCaprio gets through his huge list of upcoming projects.

7. Untitled Sam Phillips Biopic

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

Late last year, Leonardo DiCaprio signed on to star in the untitled biopic of Elvis Presley's producer, Sam Phillips. The film is based on Peter Guralnick's book Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'N' Roll. Phillips worked with many great musicians across his career, including Johnny Cash. Mick Jagger is also reportedly signed on to produce, which is a great addition because who could possibly know more about rock and roll? Don't expect to see this Paramount Pictures-distributed film to fly to theaters anytime soon though, as it's still in the early stages of production.

8. The Crowded Room

  • Release date: TBA
  • Director: TBA
  • Cast: TBA

The Crowded Room is one of DiCaprio's most intriguing movies on this list. Leo will star in and produce this psychological true crime drama, which tells the story of Billy Milligan, the first man man to successfully use dissociative identity disorder as a defense during a trial. War Dogs writer Jason Smilovic has been signed on to pen the screenplay for this drama, which is based on a book by Daniel Keyes.

Billy Milligan claimed to have 24 personalities in a story that's very Split-esque, but a tad more grounded than the M. Night Shyamalan thriller. Milligan was charged with three cases of rape and robbery in the '70s, but blamed his other personalities for the crimes. It's a dream role for DiCaprio, showcasing dozens of acting ranges over 24 personalities. This one has Oscar bait written all over it!

So there you have it: eight exciting films that King Leo has coming out, every one of them packed with potential. I'm crazy excited to see what this man has to offer with these upcoming films. He's a very busy guy with his hectic filming schedule as well as conservation efforts on the side, and it's a wonder he finds the time to do it all.

Let me know in the comments which film you're most excited for!
