After a few negative headlines that spelled trouble for The Revenant, it appears that a spectacular trailer and now, a stunningly beautiful poster are course correcting this highly anticipated film. Just months ago, the Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy lead film was reported to have been over-budget and grossly behind schedule, but now it seems to be smooth sailing until its Christmas day, limited release.
Inspired by true events, The Revenant follows the compelling story of Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), a hunter who is left for dead after a tragic bear attack, and his subsequent quest to exact vengeance on John Fitzgerald (Hardy).
Oscar-winning director, Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman), along with his partner and cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki, decided to capture the raw, intense aspects of Glass' story by filming the entire movie in natural light, which both admitted was extremely difficult.
It would appear that the same minimalist approach was taken in regards to the creation of the official poster. The lighting of the photography matches that of both previous trailers and serves to set the tone for the film. Also much like the trailers, the poster features a vast, yet dim landscape shot.
Take a look at the teaser poster, as well as the official synopsis for The Revenant below.
Deep in the uncharted American wilderness, hunter Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is severely injured and left for dead by a traitorous member of his team, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). With sheer will as his only weapon, Glass must navigate a hostile environment, a brutal winter, and warring Native American tribes in relentless quest to survive and exact vengeance on Fitzgerald.
