If you have been living under a rock the past few years, or in solitude without any connection to the outside world, you may have missed the fact that there is a new Star Wars film slated for release this December. Chances are, this is not news to you, or apparently not news to a significant amount of people anywhere as the trailer was viewed 112 million times on YouTube within the first 24 hours, not to mention the 17 million who were tuned in to halftime of the Monday Night Football game during its release.
Just to put that number in perspective with some of the other big name films coming out: It has already surpassed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, and Suicide Squad in terms of hits on YouTube.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is also crushing sales records as it obliterated the number set by The Hunger Games by more than 8 times. The latest installment of the Star Wars Saga gave Fandango server trouble as site traffic surged to 7 times its peak level in the first 24 hours. Fandango was not the only website to encounter issues, as reputable movie theater chains such as AMC, Regal, and Cinemark all crashed during the surge in sales. Despite this news, there are still opening night tickets available, although you may want to act soon if you wish to guarantee yourself a spot on day one.
If pre-orders are any indication, the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars sequel looks like a lock to destroy box office records as The Hobbit currently holds the title for an opening weekend in the month of December at only $84.6 million worldwide.
Below is the latest trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens if you have yet to see it, or want to revisit it for the tenth time.
