A lot of actors wear drastic make-up to completely transform themselves and fit their role the best they can, but it means that fans sometimes have problems recognizing their favorite actors! Here's a list of these great transformations in moves:

Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield - The Hobbit

I bet that when you look at Richard, you don't immediately see his resemblance to Thorin! The beard, hair, nose, and a lot of other things make Thorin unrecognized without prosthetics .

Eddie Murphy as Saul - Coming to America

When you saw Saul for the first time, I bet you had no idea it was Eddie Murphy until the credits scene. According to make-up artist Rick Baker, he used between 15 and 17 separate pieces of foam rubber for Murphy’s transformation into Saul.

Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos - Monster

To make this role happen, Charlize had to gain 30 pounds and shave her eyebrows. Thanks to this role, she earned an Oscar for Best Actress in 2004.

Meryl Streep as The Rabbi - Angels in America

Wow! She makes a good looking Rabbi!

Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger - Black Mass

Johnny Depp's make-up artist has worked with him for the past 10 years and we've seen a lot of transformations by Johnny during this time. In Black Mass, he made Johnny look almost exactly like the real Whitey Bulger!

Tom Cruise as Les Grossman - Tropic Thunder

This was one of Tom Cruise's funniest characters... He completely transformed himself from the Mission: Impossible spy to a fat studio executive, Les Grossman.

The director of the movie Ben Stiller said :

Nearly all aspects of the Les Grossman character were developed by Tom Cruise, including the dancing and the look of the makeup. Stiller said that in addition to the more obvious makeup effects applied to Cruise's face and head, and the extra hair on his chest and arms, Cruise also decided to play the character wearing oversized prosthetic hands.
