The internet exploded when the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was released during Monday Night Football. Many fans waited in anticipation as many believed that we would finally get our first look at the Mark Hamill's legendary protagonist Luke Skywalker for the first time! Unfortunately, that was far from what we got. Instead, we got an awesome look at both Han Solo and Leia in action, which was awesome, but still no Luke! Many fans have been demanding answers for why we haven't really seen Luke in all three trailers. Luckily, director J.J. Abrams responded to shed some light on why we haven't seen much Luke so far!

Where has Luke been, J.J. Abrams?

With all the theories going around, a ton of fans have been wondering why Luke has been absent from all the Star Wars trailers. J.J. Abrams responded when asked about the issue and said that it is all part of their plan.

"These are good questions to be asking. I can’t wait for you to find out the answer," he said. The fact Luke is being kept away from the promotional materials is "no accident," he continued.

Disney obviously does not want us to see much of Luke because it would probably spoil a bit of the storyline. It does seem like whatever role Luke will have in The Force Awakens will be pretty interesting and I think it is something that none of us will expect!

Which fan theory is correct?

There have been a ton of theories about what Luke has been up to these past few years. A lot of these actually make a lot of sense and I think we should highlight some of the best ones that I have seen so far!

1. Luke has gone to the Dark Side!

Yes, I know that many of us do not want to believe this but it is very possible. After the plot twist of Empire Strikes Back who knows how that mentally affected Luke. Possibly wanting to fulfill his father's legacy, Luke may be a part of the Dark Side now. It would be a shocker, but it is completely possible.

2. Kylo Ren is Luke's son!

There have been a lot of people who think that the primary antagonist of the film, Kylo Ren is in fact Luke Skywalker's son. This coming from the third trailer which revealed Kylo Ren gazing upon Darth Vader's mangled helmet saying that he will finish what he started. Could Darth possibly be his grandfather? I think it is definitely possible! Is that why Luke is in hiding? Because he can not cope with his son going the Dark Side?

3. Luke is on the run from the First Order!

One of the theories that I think makes the most sense is that the new Empire, The First Order, is tracking down Luke in an attempt to kill him. This would explain why Luke was covered in the brief scene that we saw him with R2-D2. He definitely looked like someone in hiding and it will be interesting to see exactly what is going on.

It is apparent that we will not know much until December which is a great thing, I can't wait to finally see Luke in action and I really hope he doesn't join the Dark Side!
