I had the pleasure of watching, Ridley Scott's new film: The Martian at Tiff last month, and is it ever good!

The Martian follows Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon), a man who is stranded on mars after his crew mistakes him for being dead. Watney has to try to stay alive and grow crops, while NASA makes plans to rescue him.

I despise the film, Gravity, and I'm not a big fan of Interstellar either, so I was a bit skeptical before watching this movie. Similar to Shyamalan, Ridley Scott had fallen off the radar and produced some pretty crappy films in recent years, but believe me, Ridley Scott is back!

The Martian was absolutely fantastic and its one of the years best so far! This film features the best cast I have seen all year. Literally everyone is outstanding in this film! First of all Matt Damon was fantastic as Mark Watney! His performance was both emotional and humorous at the same time. He was absolutely hilarious in this film, and he had the whole theater laughing!

Jessica Chastain was great as commander Lewis and she had a very emotionally driven performance. Kate Mara and Sebastian Stan were also great as the crew mates, and Michael Pena was absolutely hilarious as always! Sean Bean, Kristen Wiig and Donald Glover were all fantastic and played very interesting characters but the standouts were Jeff Daniels and Chiwetel Ejifor! Daniels was very convincing as the stern director of NASA and this was a very different role for him. Ejifor further proves that he is a top notch actor, and he had my favorite performance in the whole movie.

This movie features an all star ensemble cast, so instead of focusing solely on Watney, the movie spends a great deal of time focusing on other characters. This was one of the great things about The Martian and it really made it interesting to watch how each character handled the situation.

The Martian was surprisingly funny! There were so many great jokes that had the whole audience in tears! It was also very touching and uplifting. You really feel for Watney and I was rooting for him the entire time. Its quite intense as well and there were scenes that left me on the edge of my seat.

The cinematography and visual effects were quite the accomplishment and its sure to pick up some award buzz in those categories as well. It was a visually stunning film and its also great to watch in 3D.

The Martian wasn't perfect though. For one, there wasn't much of an intro. It kind of just jumped into the story without introducing the characters and the plot. There was also one scene where it shows that Matt Damon only has a towel rapped around him, than it zooms in on his face, than when the camera zooms out again he's fully dressed in his space suit!

Overall The Martian is a fantastic movie, and one of my favorite of 2015 so far. I definitely recommend seeing this movie in theaters, because not only a great movie, but it's also visual experience !
