Peeltheorange.net is reporting that Marvel is considering replacing the planned Iron Fist Netflix series with The Punisher. Our source says that reception for Jon Bernthal taking the role of Frank Castle in the Daredevil series has been so positive, they feel that the legendary vigilante would make for a more lucrative property. This is a quote from the source:
"Marvel can’t quite seem to figure out how to put Iron Fist into the equation and time is running out. They’re very pleased with how Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle for Season 2 of Daredevil has been received, and know that the fans have a great appreciation for the character. They also know that a Punisher series would be much cheaper and more marketable. They have a contract with Netflix and have to do something. It appears that for this phase of shows, time is running thin for Iron Fist."
As this news isn't yet confirmed, let's just treat it as a rumor for now. However, it would be a logical move for Marvel, since they haven't yet found a showrunner for the proposed Iron Fist series, and all pilot scripts submitted so far have been rejected.
If Marvel is going in the darker direction that it seems with their Netflix shows, The Punisher would certainly fit right in alongside Daredevil and Jessica Jones, as well as a possible Moon Knight series.
But, what does this mean for Iron Fist? Will he still be a part of the proposed Defenders show? Stay tuned, and visit peeltheorange.net for the latest news!
