For those who believe the horror genre to be dead, I have something to tell you: IT'S NOT! You just have to stop making comparisons to the classics and start looking in the right places. If you can do that, you'll find a ton of gems that will surely please you. In order to make horror fans more aware of the great variety of content out there, and obviously to give some credit to those movies, I present you the 'Moviepilot Horror Awards!' All done by us fans and Creators on Moviepilot. To be eligible for the awards, the films had to be released for wider audiences somewhere between Halloween of 2014 and October 2015; the nominees were chosen from other lists and reviews. Vote for the films, actors and actress that you think are most deserving of the various awards in the poll options bellow. If you aren't familiar with all of the titles or characters that have been nominated, I highly encourage you to look them up, watch the films, and see for yourself why I've deemed them worthy of being on this list. Now, without any further ado, here are the categories and nominees for your 2015 MP Horror Awards.

Most Anticipated Film

Which upcoming horror title are you most dying to see in the winter season of 2016? It's been a fantastic year already, but trust me we have so, so much to look forward to.

Which one is your most anticipated?

Practical Effects

Practical/visual effects are an important part of the history of horror. Although some filmmakers are trying to replace practical SFX with CGI these days, the vast majority of fans agree that nothing beats traditional prosthetics and fake blood. Or, do you think CGI is best? In this category, we have both!

Best Visual Effects

Slasher of The Year

Slasher films are one of the most popular horror subgenres out there, ever since the release of Halloween in 1978, which some would argue was the first true slasher film. Others would argue against that, saying that Black Christmas was the first of its kind. Some would even go further, saying that it was Hitchcock's Psycho that started the trend. No matter what you believe to be true, the wonderful reality is that the slasher subgenre is still alive and strong in 2015. Which one did you think was the best from this past year?

Best Slasher Movie

The Best of The Beasts

Everyone loves a good monster flick, right? Here are the nominees for best creature feature of the year.

Best Creature Flick

The Queen of Scream

It doesn't matter if they are scream queens, final girls, evil children or creepy old ladies. Women have and will always dominate some of the most important, polarizing roles in horror films. The following names are some of the most praised actresses of the year.

Best Actresses of 2015

The Hannibal Award

This next award is presented to the actor with the most terrifying, captivating performance in 2015. I chose to name the award after the one and only Hannibal Lector, a nod to Anthony Hopkins and his crowning achievement of winning the Academy Award for his role in Silence of The Lambs. This is a tough category guys, so choose wisely (or else).

The Best of the Worst

Some people claim that a horror movie is only as good as its villain. Well, a lot of times, those people might actually be correct. Here are some bad guys - or things - that scared us the most this year.

Best Villains/Bad Guys/Evil Things

Best Director

Every horror fan out there suffered the loss of Wes Craven in 2015. However, we can all rest assured that his legacy will live on through a new generation of filmmakers. The following are some of the best guys and gals keeping the genre alive today.

Best Film Director of 2015

Most Outstanding Debut

Sometimes, while watching a film, it's hard to believe that what you're watching is somebody's very first attempt at filmmaking. Well, that's exactly what happened with all of the following nominees, and they are pretty damn awesome.

Outstanding Debut Feature

Horror movies are often put in one of these two groups: Scary or gory. Some prefer the former, others prefer the latter, but a good combination of both can be absolute perfection. The nominees for goriest and most gruesome films of 2015 will make you want to take a shower as soon as you watch them, I promise.

Goriest / Most Gruesome Film

The Best Jump Scare

Ask around in the horror community, a lot of people will tell you that the biggest problem with horror films these days is the jump scare phenomenon. Nevertheless, jump scares continues to (BOO) happen and many people do actually enjoy them. Rather than bashing producers for using this tactic, let's celebrate the ones that did it well. Which one of the following films from 2015 gave the best jump scares?

Creepy Kids, Inc.

Creepy kids have been popular since - well, forever. They were especially present in 2015, as we got our fair share of horrifying children that I would dropkick in a heartbeat if they crossed me. These are the best performances by children this year.

Best Horror Children

Best Film

We've made it to the end you guys, this is the granddaddy of them all: The best horror film of 2015. This was a great year for horror, and whether you've seen the many titles I've nominated or not, I hope you now realize that the horror genre is alive and it's absolutely kicking ass in the film world. I can't wait to see what's in store for next year, but for now here are your nominees for the best horror film of 2015.
