If you really love the great icons of horror -- I'm talking Freddy, Jason, Michael and co. here -- you'll know that these beloved anti-heroes have grown exponentially beyond the franchise that brought them slashing and screaming into the world.

The '80s and '90s made horrors that we loved so much we just couldn't keep them to the movies themselves... check out the 5 greatest times when horror icons popped up in the outside world!

5. Chucky... Wanna Play Smackdown?

Villain: Chucky, Child's Play

Wanna play? Chucky certainly wanted to play in one particularly memorable rendition of late-'90s pro-wrestling... you may have been lucky and caught the spectacularly odd moment that Chucky straight-up threatened to murder Rick Steiner on TV... or you may just be part of a post-millennial horror crowd (like myself) who are joyously astonished this ever happened.

4. What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas

Villains: Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees

It was 2003 when the promo malarkey for the Freddy vs. Jason movie went down. The great horror figures, not content with locking blades in a deranged comedy-horror movie, went head to head... in VEGAS. The gloriously bonkers press tour involved the two horror heavyweights doing a joint Q&A in Nevada's Sin City... if only we had a time machine to witness the madness.

3. Freddy's Greatest Hits

Villain: Freddy Krueger, A Nightmare on Elm Street

Sure, Freddy became more of an anti-hero than a villain in the later Nightmare on Elm Street sequels, his wisecracking smart-assery ensuring a special place in the hearts of horror fans... but a whole album? That's something a lot of people forget!

Rap group The Fat Boys released a single called 'Are You Ready for Freddy,' which sees the chubby posse in a haunted house with Mr Krueger, who eventually joins them all in a bit of rapping... yeah, it's as weird, silly and strangely awesome as it sounds.

2. Happy Together...

Villains: Dracula, Freddy Krueger, Darth Vader, Jason Voorhees...

Freddy, Hannibal, Chucky, Jason - weirdly enough, with a chainsaw?! - appear in this one bizarre commercial which aired in Argentina in 2007. A whole bunch of your fave horror stars prance through fields and it's weird and it's wonderful and... oh, just watch it!

1. The Fisherman and his Prey... in concert!

Villain: Ben Willis (The Fisherman), I Know What You Did Last Summer

In a stroke of genius, Saturday Night Live arranged a duet between Jennifer Love Hewitt and Muse Watson - the guy who stalked her mercilessly in 90's horror hit I Know What You Did Last Summer. They also added a funny comedy skit involving Watson (as killer Ben Willis) apologizing to Hewitt for killing her friends! Then they sang a lovely rendition of 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' together: if only all horror battles could end so charmingly!
