Two of the biggest names that the Xbox One has ever had attached to it are Gears of War 4 and Halo 5. The latter has finally received its release date, while the former won't be getting anything for quite some time. These two franchises were among the most popular titles on the Xbox 360 and Microsoft clearly aims to extend that legacy.
Make no mistake, Halo 5 is an excellent FPS. The campaign is engaging, its multiplayer is exemplary, and its visuals are some of the best you'll ever see on consoles. That being said, this game does have its issues, and 343 Industries have made some irritating design choices with elements of Halo 5: Guardians. We really hope Gears of War 4 won't repeat them on release date!
What Gears of War 4 Can Learn From Halo 5 Before Release Date!
Halo 5 deserves all the praise that critics have lavished it with. 343 Industries have done a remarkable job of bringing us a truly next-gen experience with Guardians on XBOX One. However, it's also indicative of the frustrations that come with this new hardware. Gears of War 4 has time to ensure these annoyances are left out of the game, do you agree with them?
It has been discussed time and time again in relation to Halo 5. We have no couch co-op potential with this next-gen title and even if you thought things would be alright, its absence has left a gaping hole in the series. Never mind the multiplayer aspect, Halo 5's campaign is beyond perfect for split-screen play. Not having this option is a hard pill to swallow, especially since I've played every instalment in the franchise with my friend by my side. Gears of War 4 needs to retain this dying feature!
This seems to be something that's ridiculously hard for Video Games to get right, or at least I hope it is because no one seems to be able to make your companions useful! I love that your squad mates try and pick you back up if you fall down in battle, but when they all do it and die in the process it's just irritating. It's not the worst AI in the world, but in certain battle situations they felt useless to me. Gears of War needs to make everyone in the game hold their own.
There are two things in Halo 5's excellent multiplayer that I find distracting from its greatness. Number one is that if a player leaves in the middle of a match, the game doesn't replace them...why?! You'll be left to carry on the fight and the next round with one, or sometimes even two players less than the opposing team. Secondly, I think 343 could have delivered more maps considering the budget of Halo 5. 9 maps just doesn't feel that varied after blasting through them all for a few hours.
We'd love to see Gears of War 4 learn from these frustrations and work towards fixing them in its own game before its 2016 release date. Have you anything else to add on Gears of War or Halo? If so, let us know in the comments!
