I have to admit, the Black Ops 3 beta was a lot more fun than I could have imagined (and was prepared to admit). I've really disliked the latest instalments in the Call of Duty franchise and I don't think I'm alone there. Advanced Warfare was a boring, convoluted title with some pretty graphics, and Call of Duty: Ghosts was a disgraceful waste of money. Disgraceful.
I'm not usually a multiplayer gamer at all when it comes to any gaming franchise out there. But there was something that was so satisfying about Black Ops 3 online. This'll be the first time that I'll look forward to a COD game for its multiplayer. But there was something about the beta that made me feel like Black Ops 3 was not only a great game, but taking steps in the right direction for Call Of Duty.
What the Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Mode Is Doing For Call of Duty!
This may seem like an inconsequential addition for the franchise to some, but I felt like it was an important and worthwhile step forward. I was really surprised to be greeted by a character selection option in the beta. It didn't really compute at the start, and then I saw that each of them had their own abilities and perks! What is going on here?! I was very intrigued.
After looking through them and seeing which character suited my play style the most, I decided that Outrider, the futuristic [Assassin's Creed](tag:437814) badass, was the only way to go. It shouldn't be, but it was amazing to have the option to play as a woman in a franchise that is drowning in macho idiocy. But not only that, the abilities that the classes bring to the fight actually matter! Introducing them has made a huge impact on multiplayer, and it's pretty great to have a three dimensional character to play as online too.
But then once I went online I was far too excited to see what everyone was playing as: women! Almost every single person I played against online had taken one of the female options - more often than not the Outrider class. It was extraordinary to see Call of Duty, a franchise that is often cited as misogynistic and sexist, to seem so diverse! But it wasn't just for the sake of it, Treyarch chose to make the Outrider - basically the best class in the game - a badass woman!
The classes and the perks that come with them have brought a really great new feature to Call of Duty, and it's just so awesome to see a bit of diversity to come along with it. I'll probably be playing Black Ops 3 online a lot more than I've ever done with this franchise due to these new additions!
Black Ops 3 will get its release date on Noevember 6th, and I really can't wait!
