The Blacklist Season 3 has been pretty exciting so far hasn't it? After the underwhelming, shark-jumping Season 2 the promised new format has certainly put the critically acclaimed NBC show back on track, the new dynamic involving Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader) and Elizabeth "Liz" Keen (Megan Boone) going on the run from the FBI whilst targeting members of criminal alliance the Cabal in order to clear Liz's name.
Last week's episode, The Djinn, kept the momentum rolling even as the various players started settling into their new roles. Red and Liz managed to forge an uneasy relationship with the FBI Taskforce through sympathiser Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison), and even with Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and the rest hot on their tail managed to turn in the Blacklister Nasim Bakhash (Christine Tawfik) a.k.a the revenge fantasy fulfilling Djinn.
What Happened To Dembe?
Last week's episode tied with Red and Leonard Caul (Ned Van Zandt) searching for the kidnapped Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq). Presumably we'll see this plot-line continuing into Episode 5 as Red continues to search for the man who is like a son to him.
After betraying Dembe and shooting him in the side Mr. Vargas (Paul Rubens) escapes with the newspaper ad needed to lead Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi) and the Cabal to Red and Liz. Uh-oh. We left off with Dembe bleeding in what would have been the getaway car, and at the episode's conclusion Red and Caul found the warehouse where he was being kept and tortured, but no sign of Dembe.
This was a little odd given that Dembe was abandoned on the street, no longer needed now that he'd given away the means by which to contact Red. When we left him there was a number of concerned onlookers approaching him, so its reasonable to assume that someone would have called an ambulance for the man bleeding to death from a gunshot wound. Hopefully he'll show up safe and sound in a hospital somewhere next episode, but this is The Blacklist so I wouldn't hold my breath for a happy ending (remember poor Luli Zheng (Deborah S Craig)?)
There's Someone Else Out To Get Liz...
As if Liz didn't have enough to deal with, what with the FBI, the Cabal and the reappearance of her estranged spy-husband Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) in her life, The Blacklist Season 3 Episode 5 is going to be primarily concerned with another attempt on her life.
When an anonymous blacklister (presumably the Arioch Cain of the episode title because this is The Blacklist and that is how titles work round these parts) decides to take justice into his own hands and places an enormous bounty on Liz's death both Reddington and the FBI Taskforce are forced to work together to protect her. Why you ask? Because the reward has lured in numerous mysterious assassins! All of whom are after Liz. In the preview (below) we see the bounty notice online reading "WANTED DEAD not ALIVE: KEEN, Elizabeth."
Does this mean we'll get to see James Spader facing off with a ninja assassin? Let's hope so.
The Blacklist Season 3 Episode 5, Arioch Cain, is set to air on Thursday, October 29th at 2100 EST on NBC.
