Sorry, Marvel Fans, this isn't the Black Widow movie you've been waiting for. In fact, this movie won't even be a part of the MCU or anything Marvel related. Stan Lee Global Entertainment is working with Chinese producer-distributor Fundamental Films to bring an original new superhero film to the big screen, 'Realm'.
'Realm' is a story based on an original idea by Lee, co-creator of the X-Men, the Hulk, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and so many other fan favorites of the Marvel Universe. One of the people writing its script is Alex Litvak, who's known for the 2010 'Predators' film. Its plot details and story are still very confidential as no definite information has been released other than the recent casting of Li Bingbing as a star in the film.
Li, whom you might recognize from Resident Evil: Retribution, or Transformers: Age of Extinction, will be the first Chinese female superhero to be represented in a movie, a revolutionary act in the growing superhero movie industry.
“What a kick it has been to create our first Chinese female superhero, and an empowering one at that,” said Lee. “It has been such a fun experience bringing to life an international woman character, and the ability to do so has been different from anything we’ve ever done! I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it.”
We should definitely keep a close eye on this growing project and hope its success will be a harbinger of more female-led superhero movies.
