Have you been looking for a teen movie that combines your typical high school antics with drag queens and an all-around irreverent tone? Well, then Freak Show may just become your most anticipated movie of 2016!
Adding a double dose of talent to that winning premise, the film just tapped Abigail Breslin and Laverne Cox to join the production. They join an already impressive cast that includes Bette Midler, AnnaSophia Robb, Ian Nelson, and Lorraine Toussaint.
Alex Lawther, known for playing a young Alan Turring in The Imitation Game, will play the lead Billy Bloom. Based on the book by James St. James, the story follows Billy, a cross-dressing high schooler who moves to a new conservative school and gets bombarded with negative attention. Determined to stay true to himself, he runs for homecoming queen presumably against Breslin, who will play his rival.
Considering Breslin's current role on Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens, she's got the experience to play a stuck-up, antagonistic Regina George-type. As for Laverne Cox, all we know at this point is that she'll be playing a reporter.
Trudie Styler is set to direct what is sure to be an original take on the teen comedy genre! Are you freaking out about it?
