Everywhere I seem to turn I see people talking about the upcoming Star Wars films. There's no doubt this is going to be the largest movie of the year! As we get closer to its December 18th release date the speculation just keeps rising! We know Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie and a few others are returning for Episode VII but we can't help but speculate who else will we see? Who will be returning for the other planned films Rogue One and the Han Solo or Boba Fett origin stories?
Star Wars is filled with characters that only appeared on screen for seconds but did you know that most were given rich backstories? This list could be endless but here's several characters I'm hoping to see make (at the very least) cameos in the upcoming Star Wars expanded universe!
This droid only had a brief appearance in Empire Strikes Back, but he still became a fan favorite! He was one of the several bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to hunt down Han Solo and his friends. He was seen on Vader's Star Destroyer along with the others.
The IG-88 assassin droid line was a derivative of the droids used during the Clone Wars. The original IG-88 designated himself as 'A' and the others in activation order 'B, C and D'. IG-88B later become one of the most sought after bounty hunters in the galaxy. These assassins even attempted a droid revolution to destroy all biological life across the universe.
Since the character is a droid, and immortal, it would be really simple to pull him into any future film!
Aayla was born in the later years of the Old Republic and was one of the Jedi to fight alongside Obi-Wan, Anakin, Windu and others in the first battle of the Clone Wars on Genosha. She served as a General during the Clone Wars in many battles and was finally promoted to Jedi Master. Despite her prowess she was killed by Stormtroopers along with most of the Jedi during the Order 66 when the Palpatine had the clones turn on their Jedi commanders.
While it's unlikely that we'll see Aalya return in Episode VII because of her death in Episode III, with the expanding universe and the promise of one movie a year for the foreseeable future could we ever see a film that takes place pre-Episode I? I would love a solo Jedi movie around this strong female character!
Even though Nadon was only present in one scene and never had a line he has quite an elaborate backstory and has appeared many times in the expanded novels and comic Star Wars universe.
Nadon was banished from his home world and settled on Tatoine after the Empire threatened his planet. The Empire demanded secrets of agriculture that Nadon's people deemed sacred. In order to save his planet he revealed the information the Empire wanted and left his home world.
After settling on Tatoine Nadon continued to honor the religious culture of his people and occasionally leak information to the Rebellion when he could. On Tatoine the Empire leaders remembered Nadon and threatened him if he did not help find the astromech droid that had the detailed plans of the Death Star.
Eventually in the expanded universe Nadon's exile was withdrawn as his people saw that what he did was in their best interest and eventually he become one of his worlds' leaders. I think it would be pretty awesome to bring Nadon back in during the Rogue One film that takes place in the same time period as Nadon's exile.
Dexter was a mysterious character that appeared briefly in Episode II as a close friend of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Dex gave information to Obi-Wan on a saberdart that was used by a bounty hunter attempting to kill Padme. With Dexter's help Obi-Wan was able to track down the dart to its origins on Kamino. This helped the Jedi discover the clone army they used to take on the Trade Federation's droids. These same clones are, ironically, who ultimately killed all of the Jedi Order.
At the end of the Clone Wars when the Jedi were all dead Dexter hid in the underground community of Coruscant as a member of the Erased, a group who had erased all information of themselves from existence. He was last seen in the expanded universe in his failed attempt to help Jedi escape the planet.
Since we don't know how long Dex species live he could pop up anywhere. We could see him in the Han Solo/Boba Fett origin story, in Rogue One aiding the Rebellion. Or even in an Obi-Wan solo film that takes place between Episodes III and IV! This movie hasn't been announced but I'd really love to see what this beloved character was doing this whole time, and Ewan McGregor has stated that he's up to come back!
Although the character only appeared in Star Wars Return of the Jedi he has become a fan favorite! Ackbar was in command of the Rebellion fleet during the climactic fight at Endor which ended in the destruction of both the second Death Star and the Empire.
Ackbar was born and raised on the planet Dac which is covered almost entirely in water. His people are fishlike but still live above the water in floating cities. Ackbar's home world was destroyed by the Empire, and he and most of his people were taken to be slaves. He later escaped and joined the Rebellion.
Ackbar was also instrumental in the Clone Wars television show where he led an army of his people after their King had been assassinated. It would seem fairly simple to bring Ackbar into future Star Wars films as he survived the final battle, and it's likely that he still has a leading role in the New Republic.
This Nautolan was a Jedi Master and also one of the first Jedi to fight during the initial Clone Wars battle on Genosha. During the Clone Wars he served as both a general to the clone armies and a member of the leading Jedi Council.
At the end of the Clone Wars the Jedi realized the leader dark sith lord was Palpatine. Mace Windu and Kit Fisto confronted him to end the darkness but he ended up killing them both.
Fisto has gained a huge fan following, but he's among the dead characters on this list so it seems extremely unlikely.
Greedo grew up on Tatoine alongside the future Darth Vader - Anakin Skywalker. He is famous to Star Wars fans for being killed in the Cantina on Tatoine by Han Solo. Greedo was a bounty hunter who was attempting to take Solo in for the bounty Jabba the Hutt had promised.
I believe that Greedo will definitely return in the Han Solo/Boba Fett origin film. Greedo has become a huge fan favorite and it seems like this film has an easy placement for the character! Han even recognized him in the cantina so they obviously had a history! I'd love to see that explored.
I know we're all excited for the upcoming Star Wars films, and with the growing interest I believe we can expect new movies to come throughout the next decade and beyond! These characters and more would be great additions to the expanding universe!
