FINALLY! No more "soon" statements from Sean Murray; at long last we have a release window for [No Man's Sky](tag:2684052). It's disappointing that the game won't be arriving in 2015, but I think this eventuality has been pretty clear for a while. At their Paris Games Week presentation, Sony gave us a new trailer for No Man's Sky, which stated that the game would be released in June 2016 and I think we can all handle the wait.
In terms of Playstation VR, once referred to as Project Morpheus, we still haven't received an official release date. Though in an earlier statement, Sony made it clear that this new piece of tech would be arriving in the first half of 2016. If we push Playstation VR to the very end of this statement - which is very likely to happen - we see two things arriving at the same time. Is it fate?
Could the Release Date of No Man's Sky Point to it Being A Launch Title For Playstation VR?
I know that our fascination with VR may fade into nothing as it becomes a passing fad along the road of progress - but damn, that piece of kit is sexy! At the moment none of the games that will be compatible with the headset are really grabbing anyone's attention, they're all designed to show off the immersive experience that the future can promise. Like little tech demos!
Granted, some PS4 titles, like Until Dawn, will actually be getting an expansion which will be compatible with Playstation VR. But there's nothing that could eclipse the quality of playing No Man's Sky with one of these babies strapped to your face! On paper, having Hello Games' title as a launch title for your new gadget makes so much sense. I'd be inclined to think that those who had the headset were enjoying the game more than I ever could.
However, Sony haven't listed it as an available title for Playstation VR, but I think we all agree that to not eventually incorporate it into the game would be a complete waste of No Man's Sky's potential. While it would be an amazing surprise to see the game running on the headset, it seems unlikely that the company is preparing this kind of surprise. Makes more sense to tell us now so we can start saving!
Do You Want No Mans Sky As An Optional VR Game?
Are you excited for the launch of VR? We know that these devices are going to be crazily expensive, but the experience of playing a game like this is actually pretty incredible. Perhaps if there were better games - like No Man's Sky - I'd be more excited for Playstation VR. But who knows? We have a while to wait until 2016 introduces the next biggest craze in Video Games.
