I'm sure there are plenty of Dragon Ball Z fans out there who lament the path that this series' Video Games have taken. We so desperately wanted Dragon Ball: Xenoverse to be a return to form, but despite having a great story, many of the same problems are still hanging around. Dragon Ball Z needs to reevaluate what it wants to be for gamers.
As a fighting game, Xenoverse shares a lot of problems that more recent instalments have featured. The Dragon Ball universe is so rich and diverse, making a great game from this material doesn't require additional excess or other distractions. It needs more complexity in its gameplay, it needs room for players to express themselves in ways that these amazing fighting games can!
The Best Fighting Games Dragon Ball Z Needs to Learn From!
Do you remember the golden age of Dragon Ball games? The Playstation 2 had some incredibly great fighting games on it, and this series was among them. In order to rise above the modern standards that we have for fighting games, the franchise is going to have to examine its competition. Let's look at three very different fighting games - all of which you should play - and see what makes them unique and so impressively successful!
Street Fighter IV
Widely considered to be the best fighting game ever made, Street Fighter IV is an impressive feat in game design. This game embraced every aspect of fighting games that came before it and made the genre relevant again in a new generation. With a massive roster filled with so many characters, finding someone to suit your style is made beautifully easy.
The game has so much room for experienced players to express themselves, rather than confining them to a few combos. Street Fighter IV is everything we love about fighting games and we really want to see Dragon Ball Z find its own like this series has.
Super Smash Bros. Wii U
One of the greatest franchises in gaming history has literally just gotten better. Super Smash Bros. Wii U is the epitome of Smash and one of the greatest fighting games you'll ever play. From its surprisingly stunning graphics, to the decade-old fighting mechanics that have made this one of the most exciting e-sports on the face of the planet, Super Smash Bros. Wii U is everything!
What Dragon Ball Z needs from Super Smash Bros. is clear! With such an impressive roster of characters, the series needs to have the diversity of options and abilities that Smash Bros. delivers. What's the point in having so many different characters if you're restricted to a certain style of fighting with all of them?
Marvel vs Capcom 2
For nostalgic reasons, this beautiful game had to be included on this list. The graphics were stunning for its time, the controls were intuitive and demanding, and who couldn't love the roster of characters it gifted us? Marvel vs Capcom 2 can inspire upcoming Dragon Ball Z games in any way possible; only good can come from it!
